[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Slide stop peening?

Ok, I have a small amount of peening of the slide stop of my 1911 after having it melonited. I just noticed it. It is not bad, but very slight, and I only have 200 rounds through the gun. Also, the shoulders on the barrel (where the link pin attaches) is not worn, just a small amount of the oxide finish is gone.

Anybody have their slide stop peen? The slide, frame, and barrel are all fine, just a slight bit of peening on the slide stop.

I am shooting to full slide lock if this helps in the diagnosis.

Every 1911 I have owned has done this.

Have not noticed it, I'll have to check. I use only barstock slide stops.

I can see it happening as you have the slide being stopped on a small contact area.

The barrel wear you describe is normal.

Springfield with an Ed Brown Hardcore Slide Release.

Its not a lot of metal, just a little bit.

I am going to see my smith this Monday about it. He should have the answer for me.

The Hardcore slide stop is very hard and therefore hell on the slides. Especially some of the stainless guns more so. Never seen a slide peen the Hardcore slide stop though.
