The Esmeralda grips I got for my new 1911 are slim coco bola.  I installed low profile bushings and the grips.

The grips are not in contact with the grip frame, but are sitting up on the flanges of the bushings.  I can see about 1/32 inch of daylight beneath the entire grip.  They are resting on the flanges of all four escutcheons.

I'm afraid to take any material off the back of the grips, as they are thin and I'm concerned that the hole in the grip will be compromised.

But, sitting high like this makes the grips vulnerable to breakage and makes the installation less than secure.

How can I get these grips down, onto the frame of the gun and maintain their integrity???  I really like the looks of these grips, but am concerned about their durability as they presently "sit" on the gun.

Thanks.

When I did slim VZ grips on my Dan Wesson Valor they were REALLY tight on the low pro bushings I installed (think they were from EGW) and wouldn't sit down on the frame.

I ended up running a small round hobby file through the grip holes and then wrapping the grips with a thick clothe and tapping on them with a small rubber mallet to get them to sit down on the frame correctly.

I don't know if this is something that is prevalent with the low pros as this is the only gun I have them on (for CCW) but I have never had that problem with standard size bushing before.

when i've changed out my grips to slim grips i change out the bushings(provided), which are loctited in. i got a candle, wrap the frame(stripped) in a towel and barely heat up the bushings(above the flame, not in it)for a few seconds, try to turn them, no turn, couple more seconds, try again.
when installing, reloctite them.

Thanks for your help.  It turns out the bushings I got from VZ had a significant shelf above the frame when installed.  I got a different set of bushings from Midway and they worked great.  The flange on the new ones is about 1/2 the height as were the flanges on the ones I got from VZ.

So, what I learned is: There are slim grip bushings and then there are slim grip bushings.
