I need sugestions on a small 9mm. I'm trying to consolidate calibers and am thinking about replacing the Walther PPK/S that is my daily carry.

I am not a fan of Kel-Tecs, and don't want a Glock, XD or M&P. I want a 9mm that's the same size as my PPK/S. I want to stay under $500 if possible.

Thanks for your thoughts,
Adam

Kahr MK9 or PM9. Shouldn't have any trouble finding a nice slightly used one in your price range.

My thoughts exactly.

Go find a Star Firestar, pretty cheap and actually pretty decent 9mms. Only issue is that it is a bit heavy for it's size but it is also a smaller 9mm you can shoot pretty decently with.

Or a Star model BM. Not as small as the PPK, but pretty small and very slim. Well made guns.

Kahr K9 or MK9 would be my favorite.  You could go up to a Glock 26, but it's a little chunkier than what you seem to be looking for.

The Kahr K9 is an excellent CCW.

Walther is now making a pistol called the PPS, which is a 9mm about the size of the PPK.  It has six, seven, and eight round magazines available.

I'm going tmorrow to look at the 9mm version of a Bersa Thunder. I have a few friends that have the .380s and are happy with them. I'm also trying to find someone locally that hsa a Taurus 905 9mm snubbie.

I just got a Taurus PT111 and it is a great little gun.  I have put 200 rounds of Blazer ammo and it hasnt had one hiccup.  I consider looking at one of these, plus it is half the price of the Kahr.  I paid $300 out the door for a SS one.

Kahr MK9. but you should really consider a glock 26. it's no bigger and lighter than a ppk.

I used to shoot Glocks. The grip angle isn't right for me. If I S&W made a subcompact M&P p and not just a compact and full size, I would jump on it.

If you like DA/SA: S&W CS9.
Small, thin, singlestack.

The Glock 26 is about a quarter-inch thicker than the Kahr and the PPK.  I used to carry a G27 and is too thick to hide well.  I bought a Kahr PM9 a few months ago and am practically never without it.
The Walther PPS is probably the only pistol I'd consider (small enough to pocket-carry but with a "real" self-defense caliber).  It sounds like they're having some
teething problems so I'll wait-and-see with that one.

Over last few days, I have fondled just about every sub$500 compact that I could get my hands on. I have had 3 or 4 people tell me to stay away from my choice, but ALOT of people tell me that they have one and love it.

I decided to get a Taurus Millennium Pro 9mm. At 1.125" wide it's not much wider than my PPK/S at .98, yet slimmer than the Glock 26 at 1.3.  It was a good fit in my hand for a small pistol, was comfortable, and balanced very nicely. As a bonus, it’s inexpensive enough to order a nice holster for and still have a little ammo money left over

Here are some personal thoughts and feelings that helped my come to my decision, although your mileage may vary.

S&W M&P Compact: Didn’t feel as good as my full size and felt a little off balance.

SA XD-9 Subcompact and Glock 26: Felt chunky and too wide for my tastes in a small pistol.

Kel-Tec (several models): Looked and felt cheap.

Bersa Thunder Compact 9: Felt like a cheap knockoff of my PPK/S (I know, it is one).

Kahr PM-9, P-9, and MK-9: Hard to say. They just felt odd to me and not comfortable.

Springfield EMP-9: I don’t have that much cash, but couldn’t resist. It did feel and balance nice though.

Stoeger Cougar 9mm: To big for what I’m looking for, might be a future mid-size purchase though.

CZ 2075P: Heavier than I’m looking for, but nice.

Sorry for the long post, but I thought that I would share.

That's half of the equation when picking out a gun.
I have a Taurus .357 revolver and it's VERY nice.  I haven't been impressed with the 24/7 my cousin owns (trigger pull is long and gritty, but that's the only one I've touched).
Check back in when you've got a few hundred rounds through it and have carried it around a while.  The other half of the equation is reliability and how well it hides.

They really should make a subcompact M&P.

It'd be cool to see more gunmakers make the mousies but it seems to be a specialty market.
