NO!

The .22 mag case is larger in diameter than a .22 LR case. If a .22 LR is fired in a .22 mag chamber, the case will split and extraction may be very difficult.

Thank you

That said... can the cylinder be removed? If so, there may be a .22 LR cylinder for it, and you'll be OK with that.

I do not believe S&W offers any auxiliary cylinders. If they did, one would require fitting by the factory, or a gunsmith for proper function.

I was under the impression that the 651 model either had a switchable cylinder, or had the capacity to have an additional alternate cylinder fitted for it through the custom shop.  I could be mistaken though.

I know that at one time it was possible to get them to fit an auxiliary cylinder, but I do not know if they will still do it or not.

If they do, it won't be cheap. The amount of fitting required will be the most expensive part.

ETA---

OP, call them up and ask. I'd like to know if they do, and what the cost would be.

Ya know, I just remembered seeing a 22 mag-22LR chamber adapter somewhere. Google around and see if you can find it. It was on a page with a bunch of other rifle & handgun chamber adapters.

HERE it is!

Frank,

It is a shame that the MFG states that it is for rifles only.  If it worked in revolvers that would rock.
