I bought myself my first Colt 1911 XSE government a few weeks ago. I took her home and added some Hogue grips. I then decided to grab 200 rounds of ammo and head out to the range. My second shot landed the slide locked halfway back and stuck there! This happened several times! I was stumped !?!?! couldn't figure out why this was happening. I spoke to some friends and realized that the Hogue grips I had added did not have the cut out for the ambi safety, this was making the safety to stick upwards more. I felt like a total dumbarse! Took them off and put back on the wood grips that was supplied with it, and whatta ya know! 350 rounds fired and not one problem!! Live and learn I suppose... |
| this is why I am very averse to messing with guns- clean it lube it shoot it the way it is. While careful reasonable mods done by an appropriately skilled person might be ok, I have often seen functional problems created nearly as much as solved by mods and aftermarket parts |
