Looking into buying one of these.

I've read lots of good reviews but never fired one, so I was looking for some input from a website that I trust for advice on all things firearms-related

I'm a SIG guy and I scoffed at the SigPro line when it was introduced.  Trying to copy Glock without actually competing, probably as bad as a Sigma, etc.  Fast forward a decade and a half and I picked up a two-tone SP2022 for $350.  First magazine through it resulted in:

That's only 5 or 7 yards IIRC, but does include the first DA.  Just as good as my P229s and P228.  Used the SP2022 in my last 3 gun and finished in the top ten for the first time.

I will say I wish the grip was a little more ergonomic (I rather like finger grooves).  I use the large grip, which is a little hard to come by and has different texture than the other sizes.  The DA pull is a bit longer than the classic P-series.  It breaks way back.  Also, the action isn't SRT capable, so the reset is a touch longer than I normally use.  Takedown is a little different, but not hard.  For the money, it's a really, really nice pistol.  The night sights (SIGLITE, made by Mepro I believe) are the best I've had on any pistol.  The past couple years, PSA would run them at $350 a couple times a year, but their popularity must be increasing because the prices have been too.  I'd say $400 is a good price these days.

Size-wise, it's slightly bigger than the P229...about the size of a VP9.  Some pics:

Had a Hogue slip-on on the P229 before they made the overmolded. It'd always slip down a bit and I'd rather not deal with that. Never got in the way of the magwell or anything, but not worth it to me. Thanks though!

use aerosol hair spray on the back of the grip.  It'll stick like glue when it dries

I had a 9mm and liked it but sold it. Wish I still had it.

I really like mine in 9mm. I liked it so much that I bought the 40 but I sold it because of too much recoil. It is very accurate and the ergonomics are fantastic. It is too big for EDC IMHO unless under a jacket. I highly recommend the 2022 DVD created by the someone on the Sig Forum, but you might also be able to find good disassembly vids on YouTube.
I am keeping mine, but I would take a serious look at the P320 first.

I've been very pleased with my 2022, I'm planning to pick up a P320 next.
