Has anyone every used one of these?  I bought the XD 40 SC for my wife a while ago and I would like to carry it occassionally but I HATE the trigger (1911 guy through and through).  I feel like I am finger banging the loose chick in highschool and it drives me crazy.  This kit says that it reduces pre travel by 50% which would be a huge improvement.  It also says it drops the factory pull weight by 25% which is nice but completely secondary to shortening the pull for me.

I sent mine to Springfield for a trigger job and it was an AMAZING difference. I love it. I've considered doing the springer route but haven't yet. The Xd45 needs work, I think that's what I'll do!

What was the cost and what results did you see?  The kit isn't that expensive and 50% pretravel reduction is pretty solid.

I spent about $400. Got the takeup shortened to near nothing and pull reduced to 3.5# then extended mag release, added  SS guide rod and added night sights. It is more accurate and a LOT sweeter prigger

thx.  The $80 diy option doesn't sound too bad considering what you paid.

To get the best results, be sure to get the trigger kit that comes with the sear and trigger bar.

I got the trigger kit (with the polish sear and trigger bar) and installed it myself in an XDM.  It definitely reduces the travel significantly but I did not take out the disassembly bar (specific for XDM) and so the pull is not as much reduced (not a problem for me).

What I would say is that the conversion parts is of good quality and was well worth the effort.  However, I would not recommend this kit to anyone unless you are reasonably handy since you will have to be able to disassemble pretty much the whole gun (except for the mag release button) and reassembly it again properly.  The author does supply a number of videos on the web that is of some help, but they do not provide a “fool proof” install.  Some parts like the trigger bar will usually need significant fitting.  You will also need some tools like a number of pin punches.

If you go to a website like XT Talk, you will frequently see post by people who have problems with the install (include me as one), but if you are handy and willing to take the time and effort to do this, it is definately possible to do it yourself and it is well worthwhile.  Otherwise, if you can afford it, sent it to them or Springfield for the install.  One thing you have to realize upfront is that it will involve mailing the firearm which is complicated and expensive, this I suspect is why you see the $400 quoted price by walt_l.

Powder River also makes a drop in part that you can literally have installed yourself in roughly 5-10 minutes. I have had them in 2XDs and an XDm. $55 for the basic kit and if you are like me the pre-travel is really the only part you really need. I would not really advise using replacement springs to lighten a trigger pull on a carry gun.

I've got the Springer kit in both my XD45 Service and XD40 SC.  The kit was a 100% improvement in both.   Best upgrade I have done yet.

I put in the Springer Precision Sear kit and their trigger bar followed by lightly sanding and polishing the bottom of the striker where it engauges the sear.  I now have a 4 lb trigger with little to no pre travel.

Parts alone will only reduce your pre-travel so much.  The Sear kit about 50% the trigger bar (which must be fitted) another 25% to 40%(depends on your skill as a gunsmith).  To eliminate that last little pit of creep work on the striker.  Just take the striker out and run the bottom along some 800 grit sandpaper.  You will need some patience because it will require you to reassembe and disassemble your gun about 6 to 7 times.  The nice part about the XD is you can actually see the striker touching the sear through the gap between the slide and frame.  This gives you a good idea of how much material on the striker you want to remove.

You can have the trigger smoothed, but it is generally accepted that it is not a good idea to either reduce the trigger pull or pull weight for a carry gun.  This is what Massad Ayood who authors "Concealed Carry" has to say about it.  The scans are from pages 49 & 50.
