Gentlemen:
A Government-size 38 Super with light target loads and an EGW FPS; I'm looking at getting a heavier FP spring, a 10# recoil spring, and a lighter mainspring. What mainspring weight would you reccommend? Am I off base starting with the 10# recoil unit (14# was factory weight)? Thanks in advance! |

define light loads. that is the key. ie bt wt and muzzel vel.
I would get a 10, 12 and 14 recoil and a mainspring from 19 to 23 pound. 17 are always tricky to get to work and offer nothing in return. in our sport target loads for 38 super make major pf and are loadded hotter than factory. |
| Sorry, to be more clear, this is the wife's 25 yard bullseye gun; I'm having trouble with mangled brass due to low power rounds, so rather than beef up the pressure I'd rather lower the spring resistance. I'll get springs in those ranges and play around with it a bit. Thanks! |

I know of some 45 cal bullseye guns that go lighter than 10.
Most your out is 7 bucks a spring. I run a 9 to 11 w/ recoil buffer in my open gun (gun in avatar) w/ a 19 mainspring and a std firing pin spring. A EGW firing pin plate w/ a radius added. this gun has a comp and hvy barrel, as well as a lightened slide and the ammo is 1360, 125 gr 9mm ammo. |
