Does anyone have any experience doing a "overhaul" on a model 92. I have had mine for about 15 years, and it has been 100% reliable. My concern is keeping it that way. Even though there are only 1500 rounds or so through it, should some preventitave maintenece be performed? The only thing I have replaced on it has been the hammer spring to a lighter one. Is a rebuild kit available? What does it include? Has anyone done this? Thanks in advance for any input. |

At 1500 rounds, it doesn't need a thing. Truth be told, I will not even detail strip a M-9 slide down just to give it a good scrubbing/cleaning and check parts (if something isn't broke) until the 20,000 round mark. If anything (read you just feel compleled to spend some money), you could aways pick up a new recoil spring. Stock spring is 13lbs, but if you do hang onto the pistol and don't limp wrist it, a 15lb might be better for full loads. Note: on the norm, replace the recoil spring every 2K to 4K of rounds. The ejection distance of the spent brass will give you a good idea of when the spring is at the end of it's life. A stock spring with normal loads will throw the brass around 12 feet. If the brass starts making it to/past the 15 feet mark, it's time for a new spring. |

Wolf has a spring kit. I bought one of my 92's used and decided to try the "D" spring and the Wolf unbreakable trigger return spring in it for the heck of it. Since I'd have it apart, I went ahead and bought the spring pack. Installation on the lower half was a breeze, if you've done any kind of detail strip before. I didn't bother with the slide yet, as everything is working fine and I wasn't going to have it apart anyway. I figure I'll keep the extra springs I haven't used in case I need them later, or have it apart for some reason. Then I'll swap them out when it's already apart. The "D" spring is definately worth doing. Much nicer DA pull. The Wolf improved trigger return spring is easy to install and I see no reason to doubt it's a better system than the OEM. It works entirely differently than the stock spring, but drops right in. It didn't change the trigger pull either way at all. Wolf gunsprings |
WORD. I loves it. I also got the wolf trigger spring jsut for the hell of it, it is alright, I don't know if it's worth the money though. I installed an 18# recoil spring in my 96 (.40) it works well, I was actually able to use a 20# with no problems, but that seems a little excessive. |
