I have a very nice shooting Springfield 1911 that I've tricked out to a MEU(SOC) type pistol.

I was fondling it tonight because it hasn't been shot in awhile and suddenly I noticed that I could not disengage the safety. The spring plungers that provide the detent for both the safety and the slide lock had gone past, to the outside of the safety mechanism. That was when I realized that the little metal tube that contains both plunger/detents has come loose from the frame in the rear.

What's it going to take to fix this? Will Springfield repair this even though the pistol has been modified and I'm not the original owner?

Please advise.

I gotta wonder if the plunger tube was staked or glued in place.  Can you tell?  My ejector was glued in on my Springer MC operator.
I still shoot it with it loose, attempted re-gluing did not hold long.
If you have a decent 1911 guy near, it is an easy fix.

I think it was staked...but not very well.

Just buy a new plunger tube and a staking tool from Brownells.

If you have to pay for shipping, you might as well buy the tool and take care of it yourself.  That way you have the tool whenever any of your 1911s have the same issue.

Contact Springfield, they will issue a service tag and label. The tube should be staked correctly that is a factory defect.
