I finally field tested my new .45 with some MCCormick mags. The gun's fit and finish are awesome, the accuracy is astounding. I can't beleive I shoot that well with WWII sights. The problem is failures to extract. About three rounds into the eight round mags, the fired brass doesn't fly out and hangs up in the ejection port. Anyone else have this problem, and what magazines are you using? |

You didn't say if it worked OK or not with the original magazines. An idea of how many rounds went through it so far, may help zero in on the problem. Some reloaded or target ammo may not have the powder charge to make things happen as they should, if that's the case, try a box of factory hardball. I'm not so sure I'd blame the mags yet, more facts would needed. Overall, those SA WWII repros seem very nice, and should function 100% with hardball, at least. |

It was hardball. It was a mix of Wolf, American Eagle, & S&B. I also shot about 16 rounds of self defense hollowpoints just to see if it would chamber them. I still haven't got the chance to use the OEM or Wilson mags yet. I would say I put about 150 rounds through it so far. I think I will shoot another 100 rounds with the Wilson mags and the OEM's. |
| I have a new SA loaded model and the same thing has happen with me using factory mag or the ones that come with the 1911. I was shooting reloads and it was the frist 100 rounds to go through the gun. It also happened with hot defense rounds. I ran seven trough it and it jamed once with it not kicking the empty case out |
I just put the first 200rds through mine (stainless) and had only one case get hung on the port. I used 7rd GI, 8rd shooting stars and the $10 8rd range mags from CDNN (Mitchell(?)) and they all worked the same. I did find all the aftermarkets were slightly too wide for the mag well since its not beveled. No big. My only problem was a jam/hard lock of the slide when I switched to JHP's from round ball. The gun was right off the shelf though and pretty hot when I tried it. We polished the ramp and chamber edges and will give it another try this week. Good accuracy and a few hundred more rounds will probably clear things up. |
many of the WW2 GIs also need a new Ejector, b/c SA has them mounted slightly out of spec (my own with ~300 rounds through it is one that has this condition) and does not take the time to make sure that the extraction/ejection sequence is "tuned" properly (if they DID the guns would jump so musch in price many would not buy them). not to say that a slight tweek of the extractor tension won't help, it very well could help to a noticeable degree, but odds are that the gun would GREATLY benefit from a properly fitted ejector. |

After a few hundred rounds more and a good lube and cleaning the WWII has no more failure to extracts. It still doesn't like hp's, but thats no surprise. I'm going to add a wolff 18.5 spring though. The slide action is noticeably weaker than my other 1911's and that might get the hp thing worked it too if I'm lucky. All in all a good gun though and pretty accurate. It needs a parkerized twin to keep it company now though |
