Howdy,
I've never owned a 1911, but figured I should. I saw a used stainless Springfiled 1911 at a pawn shop yesterday; it had the blue springfield box (I'm an idiot, I should've grabbed the model number off the box), two mags, the mag carrier, NO HOLSTER and NO MANUAL. I tried to do as much research on it as I could. It seems to be this model http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=3. The serial number starts with NM, which, to my understanding, means that it was made in the USA with Brazillian parts. The gun also has a big ol idiot scratch and a spec or two of rust on the slide (may just be some kind of crust from the previos owner). I'm hoping I can use said idiotscratch+crap on the slide to haggle them down. How much would you pay for this handgun? Thanks! |

I believe you're correct in that the model appears to be a PX9151L. That model sells new around here (retail) for $800 + tax. If you can get it for $4-500, that would be an excellant deal.
The idiot scratch and other blemishes are easily removable with a little finese with the techniues being well published in several sources. Been there. Given the scarcity of all Springfield models, and if the piece is otherwise sound and tight, barrel shiny, trigger pull OK, safety functions, etc., I'd go as high as $700 if you really like the piece. No harm in going the lo-ball route, however. I sure would. The handbook is downloadable from the Springfield website. The holster provided with the pistol is worthless. ETA: The NM prefix serial number means the pistol was finished in the USA from semi-finished parts received from Imbel in Brazil. That applies to all U.S. made SAs, even the custom models. |
