anyone have a Springfield Loaded Champion 1911? thoughts on them? issues?

I recently bought a used SA Champion Loaded in stainless and I had a few problems with failures to fully go into battery on the first range session. I thought it was the factory mags, so I bought some Wilson 47D (needed them anyways). Still had the problem every few rounds on the second range session. Looked around for replacement springs, but the Champion uses a dual-coil recoil spring setup to accomodate the bull barrel, so no luck in finding the springs. Bought an entire recoil assembly from SA direct and so far, so good. I did smoothen some spots lightly on the frame and slide with a jewelstone block. I hope Wolff is R&D'ing some spring replacements for the Champion.
Still gotta put some more rounds downrange to determine its reliabilty. Other than my small gripe with having to buy a whole recoil assembly, I like the pistol. I like the size, weight, and balance of it. Have a few plans for it in the future (front strap checkering, dehorn job, and hardchrome). |
