From what I've seen, most people frown on it.  Is it because it's had a poor performance record? Feels PC? What's the problem? Does anyone use it?

A new standard MSH plunger, spring and plunger retain pin will solve the problem of deactivating the ILS.  Really no reason to replace the MSH if it's a nice one (read trophy match with well model).

I've wondered about the ILS that came on my GI model.   Of course I've never even tried the key in it    It just seems kind of pointless in the first place.

So far in the 1K+ rounds I've fired in my GI I've had no issues whatsoever even with the ILS.     Some day though I'll find a proper GI style MSH for cheap and swap it.    ( yeah, my gun is OD green and that's obviously not proper GI but dammit I like it )
