I'm looking possibly purchasing a Springer 1911 champion "LW".  I'm assuming this stands for Light Weight? Further meaning an aluminum frame?.....Will this affect it's durability? Should I wait for a steel frame?.  This will not be a competition gun, but after function is confirmed, might be used as an EDC.  Thanks !!!!

I had one for a short time. It was fine, but muzzle flip was crazy on it. Follow up shots were hard and took considerable amount of time compared to an all steel 1911. although I went from a 5" all steel to 3" LW alum, 1911. lol it was nite and day. but otherwise it was a fine gun, easy to carry, etc.

I carry a LW Champion and love it.  I work at a range and shoot several hundred rounds a month through it.  It is a great pistol.

I carry mine with streamlight light attached in a kydexOWB holster.
It doesn't lock the slide back on some/most wilson mags.
Other than that it's been very reliable and I've put thousands of rounds through it.

DT - I think it's a 4" bbl and not 3".

I have the LW Champion operator model, it is an aluminum frame.  I've put a significant number of rounds through it.  Yes the recoil can be a bit snappy, however I was comfortable enough with it that I was shooting it in USPSA Single Stack division when I was having new sights installed on my other 1911.   I've also used a couple of Wilson Combat 8 rounders with it.  The ETM magazines I haven't had any issues with, I did have some issues with some of their previous 8 rounders.  Do not use the MECGAR 8 rounders in it.  They will bind up and prevent the slide from cycling.

+1   I've carried one for two years and this 1911 is as good as any and better than most.  Eats any ammo i've ran through it and is accurate as hell.  Recoil is what you might expect, spend enough time at the range and it's not an issue.  I use a holster made specifically for this model made by RGrizzleLeather.com.  This dude makes outstanding products!!!!

......and you can't beat Springfield's customer service!!!!!!!!

If you are close to Austin, email me and you can try mine.

I really like mine as well. I found the Springer mags always lock the slide. Other makers , not always. (might have to try a new Wilson ETM )

Edit to add:  I got the 2 tone finish, the colored(green) frame is showing some wear, although I carry it alot.

It took me a little bit to find mine.  The only reason I did was that I walked into my local gunstore right after they got a shipment in from SA.  You may end up having to order one.

Nice piece once a little time is spent with one. Mine was a little rough to start with, heavy trigger, slide/frame roughness during operation, feed ramp horrific with machining marks. After spending some time working the slide frame fit in with grease and polish mix, it is smooth as silk against a naked body. The sear spring had to be bent a little different from factory to avoid interference with the hammer strut to get a consistent trigger pull. I also recut the hammer, sear hooks on a jig and it really improved. Mine had to be recoated from SA in the first year due to flaking. While it was there they throated the chamber. Feed ramp was polished smooth. This gun now runs as smooth as any gun I have ever used. I still have less than 700 dollars in mine, but I paid 650 new for it.
