| I'm looking possibly purchasing a Springer 1911 champion "LW". I'm assuming this stands for Light Weight? Further meaning an aluminum frame?.....Will this affect it's durability? Should I wait for a steel frame?. This will not be a competition gun, but after function is confirmed, might be used as an EDC. Thanks !!!! |
| I had one for a short time. It was fine, but muzzle flip was crazy on it. Follow up shots were hard and took considerable amount of time compared to an all steel 1911. although I went from a 5" all steel to 3" LW alum, 1911. lol it was nite and day. but otherwise it was a fine gun, easy to carry, etc. |
| I have the LW Champion operator model, it is an aluminum frame. I've put a significant number of rounds through it. Yes the recoil can be a bit snappy, however I was comfortable enough with it that I was shooting it in USPSA Single Stack division when I was having new sights installed on my other 1911. I've also used a couple of Wilson Combat 8 rounders with it. The ETM magazines I haven't had any issues with, I did have some issues with some of their previous 8 rounders. Do not use the MECGAR 8 rounders in it. They will bind up and prevent the slide from cycling. |

+1 I've carried one for two years and this 1911 is as good as any and better than most. Eats any ammo i've ran through it and is accurate as hell. Recoil is what you might expect, spend enough time at the range and it's not an issue. I use a holster made specifically for this model made by RGrizzleLeather.com. This dude makes outstanding products!!!!
......and you can't beat Springfield's customer service!!!!!!!! If you are close to Austin, email me and you can try mine. |

Nice piece once a little time is spent with one. Mine was a little rough to start with, heavy trigger, slide/frame roughness during operation, feed ramp horrific with machining marks. After spending some time working the slide frame fit in with grease and polish mix, it is smooth as silk against a naked body |
