I have a Springfield Champion Operator that I am taking to a smith to have checkering done on the front strap. I have changed the ILS system with S&A mainspring with narrow magwell. Since its going to be apart would anyone in the know make any changes to any other parts? I carry this in the cold weather and want to maintain its current reliability.

Commander lengths have been all I've seen lately. Rock Islands and Springfield Champions. Trigger worked to 4lbs, finessed with ruby stone. Bobtails are done to about half. Most hold off on sights when quoted mill time and that's a mistake I feel. Get it all done in one pass.

Front strap checkered, rear slide serrated. Novak fiber optic sights. Green rear, red front. Bobtail if desired or if left for magwell, blended and contoured to receiver. Dehorning and cosmetic things like 3/8 or 1/2 inch radius cut even on slide to dust cover. Grip safety and other controls changed if desired. I can work a bad trigger to a great trigger. That said C&S drop in ignition sets are better value, made of better steel and just a tad nicer than mine can be.

Extractors are always trashed on 1911s before leaving and switched to C&S spring steel.

You might want to change barrel bushing to improve accuracy an insignificant amount. I say leave'em alone

If this is a duty pistol without question both slide stop and thumb safety are replaced with billet by EGW and/or Wilson. Availability deciding factor.

If you can afford having all done at once means re-finish once. Most opt for spray-on, bake cure finish. I'd rather see carbon steel done in matte or polished blue.

Magazines, magazines. What magazine I use on my carry weapons depend on ammunition used. Wilson 47d, ETM and Tripp Cobra are what I use. For ball or cartridges like PDX1, my choice is Tripp or Cobra. Hornady Critical Defense, ETM or 47d. Speer Gold Dots, 47d.

These three have different feed lips. 47d releases cartridge quickest followed by ETM with Cobras taking longest to release nose. Great for ball ogive with long oal. Not so good for short ogive, short oal cartridges.

Guide rods. Whatever, I use GI, one piece and two piece flgrs in personal range and carry weapons.
