I owned a few over the years and think they're a solid performer.
They were the sleeper version of Colt's CCO with a significant difference....the guide rod assembly was unique due to the barrel length. Colt uses a 4 1/4" barrel with a shorter version of their Government guide rod set up. The Springfield guns use a bushing less system and consequently have a different recoil spring assembly. They're still available from SA and it's not a bad idea to have an extra or two on hand. Lew Horton did a limited run of two tones a while ago with standard dovetailed sights. The majority of the Compacts I've seen have Novak's, single sided safeties and beavertails. Most are nicely dehorned and carry real nice. The only qualm I had with mine were that they seemed to lose their anodizing real quick on the frontstrap and around the edges of the beavertail. Hitting up the various 1911 forums will give you way more info and pics. |
