Hey yall, I just picked up a Springfield GI and am looking for a different set of grips for it.  I would like to know what grips look good with this pistols coloring and finish.  Post pics if you have one.
Thanks!

I really like the stock US grips they come with.   My GI has them and will be keeping them.   Feel free to send me your old stock ones when you find a replacement, they'd look great on my stainless Colt commander.

+1

I just put some micarta grips on my SA loaded though and they look fantastic and I think the greenish grey black colored ones would look great on the GI parked version or realy any version.

For now this is what I went with.  They were cheap enough and feel pretty good in the hand.

Next step will be to do something about this short trigger.

Since there are a bazillion different grips offering many different looks and functionalities, I'd suggest  taking a long look at what's available and buying a few that look good to you. Do an ebay search for 1911 grips for some good pics. I like just about any better than those grips with the "US" on them. Reminds me of the fake GI surplus gear that used to come out of Taiwan and Japan marked "US". But to each his own. The original plastic GI grips look "original".

I've got those on my "loaded" model, they are great. First I tried the finger groove style, but couldn't get used to them so I got what you have. But on my recently aquired GI Champion, I like the US grips.

I got those as well on my Operator however, I cut the front part off and used skateboard tape on the frontstrap.  Serves me well.

I went with the same thing except they went on a Black Stainless.  For $16 on Ebay, I like them well enough.  They may lack the "style" that some of the others I contemplated i.e. Alumagrips, VZ, etc. but they make up for it in function.  I dig the front wrap as my 1911 doesn't have checkering.  At that cost, does it really matter if you later upgrade to some higher end grips?  Not likely.

Not to threadjack, but how goes the GI 1911 shoot?  It is fairly reliable?

It is a dead on shot.  The only proble is that I am running into are some random failure to feed errors with the last round in the magazine.  Think that this is more of a mag issue though.
