At the local store the Mil-spec is about $200 cheaper compared to the Loaded. What is the hive mind's opinion. Getting both isn't an option right now. |

how much were they going for--ie.: if they are both @ MSRP or more, then it might be best to skip em both? finishes on each? if the Loaded has night sights, i'd definitly get that one...if its got plain novaks, well, i'd consider just several things, including: what features do you really want; any possible upgrades you may or may not have planned on; do you prefer a semi-custom or USGI look, etc |

I tend to be the odd man out in a discussion like this. The full out mod'd race guns seem to be the most popular right now. I'm a KISS person in my tastes on these. Do you really need a ambi safety with a extra large lever? To me, for a carry piece, it's in the way or may get put off safe while holstered and carried. Besides, my small thumb suits the standard safety lever fine. Do you need the commander bobbed hammer and extended beaver tail? I have small hands the regular ones never bite me. And if I were to carry it at half cock the longer hammer is easier to thumb down. Do you really need a speed bump grip safety? I have never had an issue with the stock shaped ones. Night sights? Why? I have found that good three white dot sights work fine for my old eyes. And the Colt A1 was what we used on my sub back when I was in the Navy. I have over 200 rounds through my new SA SS 1911 mil spec now. I love it! The old rattle trap Colts we had back then never shot this tight! It's like a regular A1 with nice three dot sights. Ask yourself what do you "need" and compare that to what you "want" because it's cool and popular. Granted, the usual race gun mods are done for a reason for competitive shooters. But for us regular guys, the plain Jane model has much to offer. |

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC, the Loaded has the one-piece barrel versus the mil-spec's two-piece. I would also bet the Loaded is gonna be fitted a bit better & added all up, will probably be a good bit more accurate. Not to mention having better sights, even if they're not night sights. Always buy the BEST gun you can afford, IMO. This would be the Loaded. My .o2

I'd go for the loaded, unless you're looking for a basic gun that you can build/have built the way you want. To me, for a factory gun it is worth paying more for the beavertail grip safety and better sights, if you're not the type to tinker and change things. I can do without the full length guide rod and the ambi safety, but they are part of the package. As for the 1 or 2 piece barrel, it has been awhile since I looked at them. If I remember correctly, I've seen loaded and milspecs with 2 piece barrels with no rhyme or reason for it. Now all of the NM serial numbered frames I've seen did come with 1 piece barrels. From what I've seen it doesn't really make a difference, but I'm sure somebody has had a bad experience with a 2 piece barrel. If this is to be your only 1911, go for the loaded. |
No problem here either. I like my mil spec just fine. I've looked close at mine and can't see how the barrel is two pieces. How was it constructed that way? I'd swear mine seems to be one piece. Got my McCormick mags in from CDNN today. A couple 10 rounders and a couple 8 rounders. I had already bought a couple of his 8 rounders and they worked perfectly. This'll give me a good collection to use. UPS brought me my 500 rounds of Blazer ball ammo in from Natchez too. ($10.99 a box.) I'll be heading back to the range next week! |
Chamber is welded onto the rifled portion of the barrel. Springfield uses this design on their less expensive 1911s. As an example, the two-piece barrel can be had for at or under $50. The better, one-piece barrels will go for $75+. Some folks are perfectly happy with the two-piece & never worry about it. Others, like me, want THE best barrel they can get in their guns. Everyone has a choice. Ain't America great? |
I like a fairly high hold I suppose, but mine would bite me now and then. Nothing to worry about though, just a little red spot on your hand to let you know it's been a good day. |
Depends on the pistol. I had a Loaded with a two-piece barrel, and my current Mil-Spec has a one-piece. My Mil-Spec is much more accurate than my Loaded ever was. And I hate Novak sights, so all in all, I like the Mil-Spec better. |

Reality is, you usually only get bite from an EXTREMELY high hold, or if you've got fat, pudgy, flabby hands... It's not too much of a matter of how high you grip it or not... My hands have no problems with getting any webbing bite... Some people just seem to dislike the original style grip safety tangs, and insist upon the fatter beavertail grip safeties to keep them from getting 'bite'... I've always thought I needed a Beavertail Grip safety on my 1911 because my first COLT had one... Now that I have a nice stainless springfield without the beavertail, I realize that I don't really NEED one. Even WITH my extremely high hold on my 1911. |
