Is it series 70 or 80? What exactly is the difference? |

Ser 80 is a firing pin block plunger, Pulling the trigger pushes the plunger out of the way and allows the firing pin to go by. If the trigger is not pulled the firing pin is blocked. (ser 80 firing pin block) Springfield has not used this so far. To get past the Ca. tests, they did go with a Ti firing pin. this allows the gun to be droped from a high height onto concrete and not fire (Very important test, we can't go around shooting Concrete can we) To make up for the Ti firing pin they use a very heavy hammer spring. Springfield also uses a key in the main spring housing to block the hammer when locked. geo ><> |

Thank You Big Bear The easy way to tell if the gun has the new system is the Main Spring safety. The new gun will include mim hammer sear and assortes squirted stuff. Early Springfield sears in particular were pretty solid, steel main spring housings and often they shot well. geo ><> |
