I'm looking for a decent .45 to shoot at the range hitting paper, bowling pins, etc.  I may occasionally use it as a truck/carry gun, but I have my Glock for that purpose.  I was thinking about bumping up to the Springfield Loaded or comparable Kimber, Para, etc.

The local shop has Springfields on backorder with no target delivery.  He has the Para on hand.  What do you think about...

which is more accurate out of the box?
which has a better finish (parkerized version only)?
which is more reliable?
which company has better customer service IF I have a problem?
any aftermarket part fit issues with either one?

Your input is always appreciated.

Springfield is series 70.  Para is series 80.  70 is better in my opinion.  It is much simpler.

SPRINGFIELD!!!!!!!!

Those two guns shouldn't even be compared.  If you said Para or Taurus then maybe I'd think on it.  The mil-spec is far better.  It will provide an excellent base on which to build later also.

I've always wanted the Springfield.  If the Para was comparable, I would consider it...  I'll just wait for him to get one in.  By then, I'll probably just by the Loaded and start another notch up on the spectrum!

Thanks

Personally Jeff.  If it was my money....I would buy the SA Mil-Spec over the loaded.  Why???? well because then you have an excellent base gun on which to modify only how you want.  sure the loaded has all the "bells and whistles" but you may not want or need all of them.  For example....I personally like the spur hammer over the skeleton hammer.  I also prefer not to have an ambi-safety.  If I ever carry that is just one more thing that could possibly snag on my clothes.  I also hate magwels for a carry gun.  Sometimes less can be more.  This is merely my humble opinion though.

Great points.  I like tinkering, so maybe I'll save the money by getting the Mil-Spec.  I'll do some research and upgrade as I see fit.  I just need to FIND one!!  Springfield is miserably behind or Eastern PA has a run on them!

You can find them online if you have a place that can do an FFL transfer near by.  I have seen them on a few sites in stock.  They are still somewhat plentiful around my parts but selling for around $650-700.

Local place will sell the Mil-Spec to me for ~$585 plus tax.  The price may fluctuate a little based upon actual cost from Springfield.  Therefore, it's hard to spend $650 plus shipping and transfer fees knowing I can wait and save so much.

Thank you for the suggestion, though.  It is appreciated.  I'd rather wait and save versus having it now for more $.

Springfield.

BTW, did we just have this exact same thread like 2-3 weeks ago?

ETA:  OK, a little longer than a 2-3 weeks.

You are a stronger man than I.  I am the complete opposite.  I will pay $200 more to get it today than have to wait a week for it.  That is just me though....I have zero patience, and when I get an idea in my head that I want a gun, I just buy it.  Probably not the soundest of financial plans, but there is always more money..

Keep us updated man.  Can't wait to see your new Mil-Spec in a few weeks/months

I disagree with you guys I would take the Para Ordnance..........

only if I have a choice between a Para Ordnance and a Taurus but I would choose the Springfield anything over any Para.
