I picked up my new SS Mil-Spec last friday and man it shoots great. However, like everything else I can't leave it alone. I shot it breifly friday night and went home and cleaned her and luber her. I really didn't care for the short guide rod so the next day I bought a full length 2 piece guide rod, made by Wilson Combat. I like how it smooths out the slide, even on a brand new gun. So, I started thinking, maybe I will upgrade so other componets. The following is a list of items I plan on changing out. Let me know your thoughts or if something is not a good idea since I am new to the 1911. All parts will be from Wilson Combat. 1. High Ride Beavertail 2. Skeletonized Ultralight Hammer 3. Delux Sear 4. Ultralight Trigger 5. Sear Spring 6. Grips, not sure which ones yet, might be the Hogue with finger grooves. I'll be using this gun to shoot PPC after the new year so I hope to have this all done by then. |

Check out the cylinder & slide website. They make a semi drop in sear/trigger kit preset at certain weights. As long as your lower is in spec, I hear they are pretty good. Disclaimer: I don't have personal experience with the kits, but plan on using one here pretty soon... |

Personally, I would skip the "ultralight hammer". Unless you're shooting target loads all the time, you may very well find yourself with a light primer strike in the worst possible situation. I'm not really sure what you gain with the sear spring change, either....... ![]() I would strongly suggest you run 400-500rds thru the gun before you make any sort of major changes. It's waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too soon for someone to make a bunch of changes if this is your first 1911, IMO. My .o2 |
