I am looking at getting another 1911 and the Springfield TRP has caught my attention. I had my dealer get me a price on the TRP with the rail on it and the Armory-Kote.
They gave me a price of $1580 for the gun delivered. That seems to be a bit less than what I am finding on Gunbroker. I am also wondering how durable the adjustable sights are. I know this has probably been debated before but do they have a tendency to move around if carried or do they get knocked around after firing hundreds rounds. |
| The half-rail, bull barrel, TRP sells locally (Phx) for $1499 + tax, when available. The full rail model isn't a regular production offering, but is available from the SA Custom Shop for around $3K. Used examples with the full rail can bring $2K on gunbroker so that may be what you were seeing. The full-rail model also has the bull barrel. For what its worth, the slides are machined for a conventional bushing, so you can fit a standard bushing and barrel should you with to go that way. As for the durability of the adjustable sights, I don't have a clue, but it strikes me as a little unusual to have adjustable sights on what is obviously intended as a combat pistol. Whatever. There are some aftermarket non-adjustable custom sights that will fit the unique cut in the TRP slide should you ever want to get something different. |

My sights (on the TRP I bought used) have held up to me crawling around in various prone positions in gravel pits without issue. Tore up the Hogue grips I had on at the time, but the sights held up fine.
The takedown is annoying on any full length guide rod, but less so than the two piece kind that require you to use a hex wrench to take it apart. Those though can be easily converted to a standard GI type guide rod. There are also some shorter one piece guide rods with an open ended plug that takes down like a normal one too. The only way to swap to a GI guide rod on the full rail TRP would be to also switch barrels, which is not cheap to do. It's not too much of a hassle to use a paperclip for field stripping though. Not something I'd want to have to make sure I had in some end of the world, zombie invasion, post apocolyptic world where I'm doing it in a hurry in the middle of a swamp, but for my normal life it's fine. It's not my primary handgun anymore though. Not since I got my Pro. It still is one of my favorite shooters because of the near lack of muzzle rise. It's just fun to shoot. |

Crazy John will have the Thunder Ranch Special in the 1800's. He will have the Premier II with the fixed sights in the 1600's and the Custom Carry model 1700's. But like has been said, for what you have been quoted on the TRP, spend a lil bit more on a piece in a whole nuther bracket. |

Every dealer that lists them online gives deep discounts. Sporting Arms, MI Gunslingers, Proload etc. I know theres a TRS with a light rail option and Im pretty sure that a Dawson is an option if you ask for it. |
