I know I am going to stir up the hive on this, but I need a little help. I have the chance to get either a Springfield XD45 or a Glock 21 for about the same price. Which would you get and why? Thanks. Mike |

www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=4&t=50601 G21 (SF) for me--while i'll agree the XD has a better grip angle and contour and trigger feel, the narrower grip safety, trigger reset, and lack of parts (and PITAness to change a lot of the parts, esp the ones in the grip safety area and trigger portions) keeps me from em |
I tried a search, but didn't find that one. The poll doesn't help much because there is only one vote difference between the G21 and the XD. I am leaning XD now as I have never liked the grip angle of Glocks. Plus you get all of the free SWAG with the XD. The DHS deal on the GLock only gives me 3 mags instead of 2. Mike F |
| The one time I picked up a 21 I just laughed. 9mm Glocks are like holding a 2x4 to me and the 21 was like holding a 4x4. I do not exactly have small hands either. I picked up the XD9 Service and it sits in my nightstand. I want to like Glocks because of their reputation but I cannot stand the grips or the triggers so they get passed over. |

Get the XD-45 with the 5" barrel and the compact frame. Trust me, you'll love it. After that, send it to Springfield Custom Shop and let them work the trigger a little bit and add an overstravel stop. It's an extra $150 but it will make even a 1911 fan love a polymer gun. Ask me how I know... |

I'd say shoot both and go with whichever you prefer. Personally, like most other people in this thread, I preferred the grip angle and trigger on the XD. I don't find the Glock grip to be uncomfortable, it just doesn't point as naturally for me as the XD. Also, the XD triggers get even better as they wear in. After 750 rds or so, it'll be noticeably smoother. |
| Go with the xd, I have a pair of them in 9mm. If you pick up a glock 21 it freaking huge, it is really a joke. the xd 45 is just like the 9mm xd's maybe a touch bigger. It has a similar feel as like a H&K usp45 grip size wise, just alot easier on the wallet . I sold my usp and am buying a xd 45 post haste if that tells you anything. I had a glock 17 it is now a xd 9 service model. they are the best hand gun for the money hands down |
| I have a Glock 26 9mm and my brother has an XD 5" Tactical model with the stainless slide in .45 and after shooting that gun for a bit I have to say I much prefer the XD grip. Both triggers are good, I wouldn't say one is better but they are different. I also prefer the stock sights on an XD to the stock sights on a Glock. Plus the XD has metal mags which seems to help the mags fall free from the mag well if nothing else. |
Of those 2, I agree with Marksman and would go with the Glock. ![]() I've seen the XD go down a lot more in training classes than the G21. -The "extras" you get from Springfield are POS fobus-quality crap. - NOT something I'd carry. -XD spare parts are tough to get (getting better but still difficult) -The XD grip safety makes 1-handed reloads "difficult" - I've seen XDs lock up and take 2 guys to "unjam" them after the slide locked up due to grip-safety issues. If you absolutely hate the G21 grip angle and must have a "By-GOD .45", look at a HK USP Stay safe, Mike |

Tenifer and Melonite is the same thing. They are both carbonitriding. I agree with TBS. I prefer the XD45 over the Glock 21. Yes, I've tried both. The trigger pinch, 2x4 grip, and grip angle is horrible with the Glock, for me. The XDs have been around too. Not as long as Glocks; yet they are not as new as people seem to think. Glock, XD, M&P (to name a few), you can't go wrong with either. |
| Both are great, but I've yet to see any Glocks sold due to lack of reliability, I can't say the same about the XD. Yes the grip angle and size of the grip on the 21 are a bitch, the SF version greatly improves on it. I bought mine and that day it became my EDC gun. |
yea, sorry...its one of those topics: "1/2 of a dozen in one hand, 6 in another" type things... |

While I can certainly agree that both are fantastic pistols I prefer the XD as well because I prefer the trigger and the grip of the XD and both my XDs shoot as well as any Glock I have ever shot including my own. Some parts are not as easy to get for the XD as the Glock but the "NO PARTS" for the XD is as over done as the "Glock Handgrenade". My 5" .45 seems to shoot better than my 4" service for me by a smidge but not much but my 4" service feels better balanced to me. |

I currently have an XD-45, and had prior a 1st gen G21. Comparing those two I prefer the XD greatly. It just fits and feels better, and it's made better as well. I do still own one Glock, a new G29 ... simply because it's one of a kind. If there were a compact XD in 10mm I'd buy it. The thing Glock has going for it is all the aftermarket stuff available, if you're into modding a gun the Glock has infinite options. |
| I've shot a few glocks in the past ..I don't remember what models they were that's how much they impressed me...all I handled had the same problems..lousy trigger, grip angle, sights, I just was't impressed with glocks at all. The XD however is a impressive piece (I have a Sig p-220, and 2 1911's a S.A. milspec and a Kimber custom classic). The grip angle on the XD is excellant, made for the human hand.. 13rnds in a simular size package is a big plus. metal sights, trigger, and a rifled barrel so one can use cast lead bullets. The only problem I found out about my XD .45 is that it will not feed SWC's not a problem for me (I reload) so, I'll switch to a round nosed bullet style no big deal..Look to me like the parts availabilty thing is going away as several places offer XD parts. Besides S.A. covers them with a lifetime warranty, so, what's not to like?? I'd say reliabilty is on par with Glock.. Reading over at the XD forum, there is'nt alot of posts concerning broke parts, or many posts about reliabilty problems other than new shooters finding out the XD wont feed SWC's.. XD for me, this coming from another 1911 shooter. |
I thought FN was Belgian? |

I have a few XD's, and a few Glocks. They are both excellent weapons. I like the XD's, but the glock conceals better (XD40 service)vs G23. The frames are almost identical, but the grip on the XD is bigger, hence harder to conceal. I've found the accuracy to be identical for both (4" bbls) Plus XD40 = 13 rounds, Glock 23 = 14 rounds. I carry the Glock. |
