I have been looking in to getting a new concealed gun and this one seems to have really caught my eye. I was wondering if some one could give me some insight on it, if it's worth the money or if it's to big of caliber for that small of a gun. I really want a 45 carry gun.
I already have the Shield in a 9mm and love it but want the bigger 45 caliber. Thanks |

Here are a few places and some good deals on it too

I might sound like a pussy here. I fucking hate mine. My XDs has 35 rounds through it and may never see a range again. Not sure if it was how I was holding it or what. My thumb was red and swollen, shooting buddy couldn't believe how much my hand had swollen up after barely shooting the the little shit. My wrist hurt all night, nothing like that has ever happened to me. This was with 230 grain Federal Premium.
If we weren't using it for holsters it would be gone. Please no PM's offering to buy, it isn't for sale. I own the Shield also, nice shooter. |

I had a Kahr CM9 for CCW, but I disliked the Looong trigger pull, so I was on the hunt for a solution more fitting to my likes. I've had a Glock 22 as my nightstand for several years now, so I was more familiar with that style of trigger.
My CHL instructor carries an XDs, and gave good praises during our class. The range I visit also has 2 for rent (1 black, 1 bi-tone), so I had the opportunity to get in a couple of sessions to see how I liked the platform. I was sold on my 1st session. For me (5' 11", 185lbs) it's very, very comfortable as a CCW. Size wise, the difference between it and the CM9 is negligible. The slide is slightly longer, but feels slimmer. (although a mic says they're almost identical) The grip is wider front to back, but that actually makes it feel better in my hands. Recoil is no worse than the snappy'ish CM9. It's actually much more manageable than my Glock 22. The trigger is very nice as well. Feels (to me) just like the Glock. The sights are very good. Straight out of the box the front sight is super easy to pick up/clearly see. You can change the FO in the front if you don't like the factory installed red. (case comes with green, amber, and another red FO replacement) I like it so much, I'm now seriously considering selling my Glock for another 45 in the nightstand. (maybe anotherXDs!) |

I got one through a trade with 50 rounds downrange. I have put about 300 rounds downrange so far. No issues at all, eats/feeds anything. Recoil in negligible IMO. Sights are great - the front fiber optic stand out very well. Was hitting a 8 x 11 (appx) steel plate at 45 yards fairly easily. Its a very accurate little shooter. My only issues is the backstrap safety (not a fan). I had no issues with it, but would prefer it was not there (it could be easily disabled).
Trigger reset is similar to a glocks. My G27 is snappier than the XDS FWIW. |

I have a XDs in the bi-tone finish. I recently passed the 500 round mark with no malfunctions. The first range trip I put 3 boxes of 230 grain FMJ thru it. 150 rounds. I couldnt do that with my Colt New Agent without a glove. The perceived recoil seems less with the polymer frame. Accuracy of XDs was very good. Shooting multiple round strings at speed is not bad, but muzzle rise is much like you would expect from a small gun chambered in 45 ACP. After getting accustomed to the gun, my average spread between 2 shots(double taps) was 3 to 4 inches at 15 yards. Trigger is glock-like, but seems a bit heavier than factory Glocks, much like my G23 with the New York trigger.
The XDs is a bit large for pocket carry, but carries very well IWB. I ordered a couple of 7 round mags last week but dont have them yet. The XDs has become my EDC when I carry IWB. I'll be keeping my PM9 for pocket carry. |

I think the comments on the XDs size is based around it being a 45 ACP. The standing perception is that it's "difficult" to find (before the XDs came around), and carry that size caliber in something near the sub-sub compact/micro compact platform.
I'm sure there are others, but they may not have all the features of the XDs. Yes, you're not going to be pocket carrying this one like a 380/9mm chambered micro compact. (Unless you're Andre` The Giant, or have big cargo pants.) IWB carry is where most will find it happily resides for CCW. |
| I have a xdm .45 full size and love it! So naturally when I went in search of a ccw gun I thought the xds was it, well it wasn't lol I mean you can tell its small but you don't really know til you hold one, I finally found a local shop who had one I could play with and I just plain didn't like it, it's really hard to get the slide back with how small it is one, and two I couldn't stop thinking about how violent the recoil must be when I was holding, know how it is on my xdm when I can actually get my whole hand on it. Needless to say I ended up getting a g19, I still deep down want one but it would deff have to be in the 400 range not 560+ |
| I think a lot depends on grip strength. I put 50+ rounds down mine today and had a blast shooting it. Very accurate carry gun. All the talk of wrist and finger damage seems due to the gun over rotating in their grip. I had such pain or even hints of this issue could be trouble for me in the future. |
