[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Springfield, Kimber, or Sig?

I was at the gun show this morning some shootin' irons. I've never owned a 1911, but I've had a hankering for onesince I shot a rented Kimber TLE at the range a little while ago. For around the same price, I can get a Kimber Pro Carry II, or a Sig 1911 Carry. For a little less, I can get a Springfield Armory Champion Operator. The Kimber doesn't come with night sights, and the Springfield is the only one with a rail. Whatever I buy will likely be my CCW weapon, and if I get the Springfield, it may even take over as my HD weapon (since I like to have a light mounted to my HD weapon).

Opinions?

I handled Sig with light frame lightly used and new in box and the slide was loose on both pistols; I could shake the slide with the hammer down. I hope that Sig Carry would be better

My vote goes for the Springfield Champion Operator....I like the Ambi safety and the night sights. I have a standard LW Champion and it is a great CCW pistol:

I'm not really concerned about the ambi safety, but it seemed like a well-put-together pistol.

I've actually always liked the Kimber Pro Carry, but for a novice you are better off with a Springfield.

That said, I'd be looking for a Colt Commander or a gov't length Springfield/Colt for my first 1911 that is going to be used hard.

Not that Kimber's are bad, because they totally aren't. But IMHO I feel you aren't getting what you pay for. I think the Springer is a better value for the money.
