me and my buddy just shot his brand new springfield xdm 9mm, and on the second clip encountered some problems:

1.) the slide did not lock back after the last round fired
&
2.) when shooting monarch 115gr. rounds,  7 cases did not fully cycle through byt he end of the day. some 123gr. ammo didn't not present this problem, but still? we wanna be able to shoot the cheap stuff.

thanks for the help

How many rounds through it?  Don't consider it to be "broken in" till it's had 2 or 3 hundred through the pipe.

If it hasn't reached this point, keep shootin.  Then see.

we busted about 150 rounds through it today, mostly of the cheap 115gr
im not thinking its broken, i just was looking for a diagnoses. it'll probably get shipped back to Springfield soon if it continues. is this problem typical with cheap light loads, cause i had a similar problem with a remington 1100, and it only happned with cheap 6, 7,  and 8 shot

My XDM 40 has been flawless, but all I have shot through it has been 165 gr. Winchester FMJ about $28.00 per 100 at walmart.

This... Run some more rounds through it.

the ammo is the problem

xd's are made for combat and the springs are setup for full self defense loads.

it will get better as things break in but there is a reason monarch ammo is cheap.

There's your problem.

It was designed to be fed from magazines, not clips.

Hey, somebody was going to say it!

This is my thinking. We've sold quite a few and we get plenty on the range and nobody has complained yet.

All three of my XD's from 9mm to 45ACP have run with boring regularity with all ammo types.  If you do have an issue, contact Springfield Armory, they are a class act company and will stand behind their products without hesitation.

You may be holding the slide catch down when you shoot. I know I do. Started shooting like Todd Jarret teaches and now I hold the catch down most of the time unless I think about it.

Definitely not time to "send it back".

Continue break-in.  Use different ammo.

I was not telling OP to send it back, contact Springfield Armory and ask the folks that import the firearm, their opinion.  They are the true experts and can ask more pertinant questions and trouble shoot over the phone.  If its an ammo problem fine, but if needed according to the good folks at SA then send it back.  No biggie.
