| I thought it was still the Beretta M9 9mm. I also realize there are some 1911s still out there, but have seen various places that the M9 is going to be totally replaced by an HK 45acp? Yes, I live under a rock...but they occasionally let me out to play. True? Or is the Beretta still "The Gun"? |

As far as general issue, it's the M9. |

Even though some Units have a lot of latitude of what they issue, they still can't use "whatever they want." They T&E every weapon that they field, and issue weapons that meet their needs. |

Just to throw some fuel on the fire, various US military units have at various points in history have used:
M1911A1s Meusoc 1911s - possibly type classified as the M45 but I'm not so sure that's accurate Sig M11 (p228) Sig p226 (also passed the XM9 trials) HK Mark 23 Sig 229 (Coast Guard) Glock 22 (story is SF guys use them because they can get .40 HP from Coasties - as well as super-sweet tan 20-rd mags you can't buy) I seem the recall a very small run of STI double stack 1911's popping up on the public market from CAG testing But in the end, the official standard is the Beretta 92FS, and will continue into the future until Westinghouse makes a laser pistol. |

USCG DIAT issued Glock 17's in the late 80's/early 90's |
