I am right handed and have rarely every shot or trained shooting weak side. I pocket carry a revolver most of the year but now want to carry a G30 on the strong side and the revolver on the weak side in the pocket. I need some ideas on training and mostly on a carry config. The G30 has a Comptac which I like and the revolver is in a Nemasis. |

I prefer to carry strong side with the BUG on my ankle, or on body armor on the off side, but set up primarily for strong side draw with off side draw possible. I prefer to have the two weapons seperated on my body though. Just my preference, and nothing wrong with carrying two on the waist, one for strong side, one for off, but I do suggest getting some training on the subject.
I am ambi for most things except writing, and it still took me some time and one-on-one instruction to get decently comfortable with shooting solely with my off hand to trust myself fully there. (Retention drills get a bit different as well.) |

Quoted: sounds smart to me!!!! just go and practice Dry fire is good also. adds to muscle memory I carry a jframe in my left front pocket P229 IWB on the right side spare mag in cargo pocket Okay. I'll give it a try. I wear cargo shorts 10 months out of the year. I have never carried extra mags but a load the 30 with 21 mags. That gives me 14 45ACP loads and five 357 Magnum loads. Any recs on a better pocket carry holster? FB |

(If you wear pants a lot then the ankle holster is a good idea) I lost a lot of options when I moved from IN. ( Coats/jackets,long pants) BTW I would use 38spl +P over 357mag I found that I could put a tight group down range faster than with the 357mag loads I wont use 357mag ammo unless its a 4 inch K/L frame better yet the L frame Short Barrel 135gr +P Gold Dot Corbon DPX +P 110gr Win DPX1 130gr +P |

I never did understand the concept of someone who isn't a LEO of some sort carrying a BUG. Chances are you'll go your entire life without having to draw your weapon, much less get into a shootout and have your weapon fail you. If anything, an extra mag would be wise in-case you need your weapon. It seems to me like an extra gun is just dead weight and will make you more likely to print.
As for shooting left handed, I think training to shoot/manipulate a weapon left handed is a good idea for sure. |

Not to get too far off topic OP, but consider saying "off side" instead of "weak side". I realize it may be just semantics but its also a mind set. As a current LEO its how we are taught. Don't ever think you have a "weak" side.
Shooting off hand is part of the firearm certification and I must admit that I'm not too good at it. I do practice at the range but not as much as I should. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

And besides that...If a guy gets a hold on your dominant hand to do something nasty with you...might be cool to have something in your non-dominant hand's reach to get him off you. Could be a j-frame...or a blade...or something... |

In class we teach students how to remap their brains to week side by having them do everyday things left handed(if week side) like eating and opening things...even writing if can be done legible...it quickens the dexterity of weak side movements, that with trigger time on your left side should help alot. also practice left eye if right eye domonent..you never know. |
