I just picked up a CZ 75 compact and was lubing it up and noticed it is marked 9mm Luger. So for curiosity I looked at my 92Fs it is marked 9mm parabellum. Whats the difference ?

the only difference is the wording, other then that they are the same round.  para bellum is latin fo "prepare for war", don't ask me why DWM used that. as for the "Luger" it's the man who designed or had the round designed to fire out of his pistol when he had the pistol reconfirgured  from the original smaller  caliber  7.65mm (.32cal), to a slightly larger new caliber 9mm

The motto of DWM included the words para bellum, that's why.

For the OP, as Ghoulardi said, they are the same.  Many cartridges have multiple names.  American ammo companies called it 9mm Luger because the first guns chambered in 9mm that Americans were familiar with were bring back Lugers.

9mm Luger = 9mm parrabellum = 9x19mm = 9mm NATO  (technically NATO is a specific 9x19 loading)

I thought so as well but as I said It got my curiosity going. Now how would one shorten parabellum to 7 digits for a license plate
