Ok I am a little confussed and need so info. I have a Springfield Loaded and I am wanting to swap out my main spring housing with the ILS in it for one with out it. I am looking at one from Wilson Combat called the V-Grip MSH as it forces the web of the hand high and into the beaver tail for a better grip and which in turn helps with your aiming and shooting. I am also looking at a Ed Brown MSH or one from Smith & Alexander.
My quiestion is if I did change out my MSH would I also need to change out the springs and all of the other stuff in the MSH, if not would it be a good time just to go ahead and do it and get it over with since I am swapping out the MSH? Should I just go a head and swap out the MSH and just leave the original springs and stuff and call it a day and don't worry about it? Also should I just get e MSH with a mag well on it or just leave it as is and swap the MSH and don't even worry about a mag well? |

You need a nw mainspring (probably 23#), a new mainspring cap (the piece on top of the mainspring), and a cap retention pin (a tiny little pin that goes into the bacside of the MSH that holds the mainspring/cap assembly in the MSH. You can reuse the lower mainspring cap (the pointy one), and the pin that holds the MSH in the frame. Probably appropriate to buy a pin replacement kit for $10 or so and be done with it. I think a new mainspring is about $4. I just replaced the MSH in a Mil-Spec with a Wilson MSH with an matching magwell. Not a big deal, but trial fit everything "before" you put the mainspring in to make sure the holes in the frame, magwell, and MSH match up properly. There may be a little fitting required. You can do it with the mainspring installed, but its a PITA if you're a first timer.
You don't need to change any other springs. Be sure and tape down the grip safety before you take things apart. It's all described in the Springfield Owners Manual. |

SGB,
Thanks I thought I had seen that before but I guess I just over looked it. So from what I can see I do need to change out the mainspring if I change out the MSH, also what would would changeing out the mainspring do and what would be a good wieght be to swap to? |
