I am a resident of Memphis, TN and hold a TN handgun carry permit. That information as of right now is considered public record. The local newspaper here is the Commercial Appeal and they decided to post the database online and make it searchable. As of a few days ago it listed your full name, full DOB, address, ZIP, issue date and expiration date. People here are furious and have been trying to get this taken down. I personally have called and emailed both my state Senator and state Representative. I also have called the CA and emailed the top guy there. They are known for being far left wing and will not listen to reason and don't understand what a huge breach of privacy this is and also what sort of problems this could cause us. I hope that anyone that is a member here that lives elsewhere in TN will join me in this fight. I called a guy with the NRA-ILA and yesterday the NRA-ILA posted an email broadcast about this out to its entire membership. So if you live anywhere in TN this affects you! Call your legislators and raise hell. There is currently several pieces of legislation floating around that will make this information confedential and make it a crime to publish it. 2 years ago the Nashville newspaper did the same thing online and within days after public outcry they removed it. The Commercial Appeal here in Memphis are stubborn, mornonic fools. Please be warned. |
| The actual link is http://www.commercialappeal.com/data/gunpermit and there is a thread on www.tngunowners.com that is pretty long. My goal is to get enough complaints in Nashviille from all areas of TN to get something done swiftly. |

Looks like HB0053 was withdrawn because there was a Senate Bill to go with it... it had a stiffer penalty for releasing the info.
BUT looks like HB0221 has a Senate Bill with it and it is moving along right now. http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=HB0221 Please if you live in TN write your State Representative and State Senator and let them know you favor handgun carry application confidentiality in any bill with the stiffest penalty possible. Rock the boat. There are also some other good bills out there right now that would loosen restrictions on guns in state parks and also carrying where alcohol is served onsite but isn't that business main source of income. That is very hard to prove in court but a place like Applebee's would be okay... a place like Flying Saucer wouldn't be okay. In the end TN is finally getting looser with the restrictions that only hurt law abiding citizens. Viva La Revolution! |

I've heard of groups of gun owners contacting a city's Chamber of Commerce and threatening to boycott their town and to never visit or travel there as long as their is a hostile environment for law-abiding, gun-owning citizens. It worked in Indiana where a town in Northern Indiana was trying to pass a city ordinance that would affect concealed carry inside their city (I can't remember all the details) but once the Chamber of Commerce got wind that a group of individuals were cancelling reservations and would be spending money elsewhere, it was cleared up and swept under the rug. You should find and post their contact information for others to help your cause.
Good Luck! |

Close, but no cigar, I'm afraid. Memphrica's mayor is a libtard & thus hugely anti-gun. They could give a fat rat's behind what we gun owners think or feel. Their homies are killing each other as well as robbing tourists & their response is the usual libtard "we need MORE gun control" bullshit. Now, what *I* did was e-mail the Communist Appeal's editor & told him *I* would NEVER read their paper, visit their web site nor buy from their advertisers. I would also contact said advertisers & tell them why they were losing MY business. Would this work? Who knows, but at least they're now getting swamped with complaints via phone calls, e-mails & letters. |
