Anyone know offhand whether the dimensions for the M-3 and the M-3X are the same? Just wondering for purposes of holster selection.

Thanks, folks.

M-3 bezel length 13/16" (2cm) bezel width 1 1/8" (2.8cm)
M-3x bezel length 1" (2.5cm) bezel width 1 1/4" (3.2cm)
These measurements were done with a ruler and the naked eye.

My Safariland 6004-832 (pretty sure that is the model #) tactical holster for a G17/22 will not accept the M-3X  but the M-3 slides in with ease. Maybe Safariland makes their products with overly tight tolerances but probably not.  I would have to venture a guess that most holsters that can take an M-3 won't take an M-3X, but I only know for sure that it won't fit in a Safariland.  Hope this helps.  matt

Dammit, the Safariland holster was the one I was thinking about buying.

Thanks for the heads-up, Sgain. I guess I'll get in touch with Safariland and Insight to see if either knows of a holster that will work.

No problem man, when I bought my X about the first thing that I did was try it in that holster.  It was ok though, because the light found a good friend for life on my Benelli.  Whatever light you end up with, when you go to the range and are not actively using your light, throw some rigger's tape over the lens, will save you quite a bit of headache when you notice the powder residue that just clings to the damn thing.  matt

I was actually going to try to find a Butler Creek flip-up scope cover that would fit. I use one on the SureFire I have mounted on my 870 and it works like a charm. I was worried that the recoil would throw it open, but it never has.

The purpose in having one on the SureFire is to keep the light from coming on at an inopportune time, but I'm sure one will be just as handy for keeping the 3X lens clean.

I hope I can find a decent holster. I really don't want to go the Fobus route.

do you need serious level II retention?  If not bladetech makes a good holster

Thanks! Looks like they have exactly what I'm looking for (G17/M3X).

I would second that suggestion.  Blade-Tech makes an outstanding holster.
