| Is this thing all its cracked up to be? |
|
Owned one for about six months. I'm guessing 500 rounds thru it. 100% reliable. Good trigger. Good sites, once you get used to them. Accurate as anything else in the safe. Finish seems thin but is generally holding up. Grips very flat/thin. Checkering is good, but not flawless. No complaints. For the money (I think I paid $525) I'm perfectly satisified. Purists will snivel about MIM parts but in this price range that is what you get. Purist will also tell you a Springer Mil spec or GI is way better. Let's see, Springfield's made in Brazil with MIM parts is way better than Taurus' made in Brazil with MIM parts. I see........ Good gun for the money. |

already seen one break. The ejector sheared off at the frame. Less than a year old.I'm sorry but after dealing with Taurus on the business end I will not purchase a Taurus. I do not care how nice they appear to be. Their customer service is a joke. Their lifetime warranty only means it takes a lifetime for a repair. They never have parts on hand. 6 months for a locking block for a PT92. That is one of their biggest sellers and they didn't have a locking block in the country for one. Yes i know its a 1911 and parts are widely available. Yes i know taurus will fix it no matter what. I want a gun i don't need the warranty for. JMHO. J |
The Taurus is a great value, but a brazilian forge is not just a brazilian forge. Springfields components are made by IMBEL (Brazilia Arms) who has been forging quality 1911's and componenets for decades, many of them via Colt license. |
Yes it's all it's cracked up to be!! I have owned two and they are excellent pistols. Forged frames and slides, both of mine had 4 & 4.5 lb triggers out of the box, very accurate, and I have only found one brand of ammo that doesn't feed reliably in them (HSM JHPs won't feed reliably in either PT1911). Some have had parts break but far fewer than I have read about with any other manufactures guns. They have also let a few get by QA but again far fewer than other manufactures. Do a search on the internet for PT1911 reviews and read what the users have to say about them. A lot of people bad mouth them for simply being a Taurus product. Well MOST of the users are very happy with their PT1911s. You can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Read the users reviews and make up your own mind. By the way they are a 1911 so if you have a problem and don't want to send it back to Taurus; find a local gunsmith or fix it yourself. I sent one back to Taurus and got a replacement in 3 weeks!! (There was nothing wrong with the one I sent in, just some internet gun commandos convinced me there was a problem. I new I should have trusted my own opinion!!!!!) Diamondback A 45 may not expand but it will never be smaller than .45!! ![]() NRA Memeber |
Ype. I'm running Wilson Combats in mine, no problems. Mine has been 100% reliable, and is a great shooter to boot! |

That is great news. Have been considering making that my next gun but was worried about parts. Our local agent not even knowing that Taurus sells a 1911 till I told him. Third world countries. Got to love them. I want the gun for Pin Shooting. It will be my Pin Gun. So I will fit a comp on it. Other than that what else would you recommend? |
BUD'S GUN SHOP $479.00, I ordered one last month. Received it within 4 days. Shipping plus an FFL transfer put me at less than the $549 your local guns store wants. Does that price include tax? |
I tend to support local small business. I wouldnt mail odrder to save a couple bucks. |
I have about 2200 rounds, through mine. Mostly ball ammo. Had a few FTF with an old Colt magazine. The right side safety lever on mine is a little lose. Overall I am very happy with mine and glad I bought it. I have owned other 1911's so this is not my frist. For the price and how well the gun has worked so far it is a very good deal. |
This is without Tax but his only 2 sold before I could get one bought so I may have to mail order whether I want to support local business or not. |

I just purchased a Taurus PT1911 as my second handgun my first was a Tactical 45 XD. This Taurus is my introduction into the world of 1911 so I hope its a good choice into the inauguration. It was bought on gunbroker since the local shops sold out & the auction is Purchase. Let me know if you guys think I got a good deal. I'm so excited I wont be a 1911 virgin anymore Also a Thank You to Nathan03 for telling me where to purchase an awesome set of grips. |
|
I`m definatly in love with mine. Best 1911 style .45 I`ve ever owned. Flawless fit and finish, and runs like gang busters. It`s even more accurate than my G-21 & 30. |
| My wife bought mine for me on valentines day of this year. I have many different types of amm through it, and have tried 4 different mags on it, and have never had a problem. You cannot beat this gun for the money. I have read of very very few problems with these. I have heard of even less of people having to "tweak" their PT1911's to make them run right. First thing any 1911 old salt will tell you is that most 1911's have to be tweaked to run right, even Kimbers. Not true with these. |

try a search, there are few more topics on the PT1911 FWIW: i think that for ~$500 OTD, they are a good deal i prefer the forged frames, the great trigger OTB, the fitted parts, Heinie sights, etc what i dont think will work: the MIM parts, the FSC is a joke, but does look ok, and while i've had almost 1K of rnds though mine (no malf that wasnt reload ammo related), its been a good, reliable shooter |
+1 It was my first 1911. Not my last. I have shot every type of ammo I could get a hold of. Zero malfunctions. Shoots very tight groups and has a great trigger. If some else tells you that you have to spend a ton od cash to get a great 1911, they have not owned a PT1911. BTW, I also own a Ed Brown with another on the way. So I am a high end snob also, JK |

Picked up one at a local funshow for 525 OTD. Worth every penny. Slapped on some better grips and an 8lb recoil spring and I could not be happier. I have put approximately 400 rounds through it and not one hiccup. It's an accurate shooter and I've put plenty of crappy ammo through without a problem. The finish is a bit thin, but I don't mind, the scratches give it character and shows that it is loved. |
| I think for the money the Taurus 1911 can't be beat. I don't own one, but have shot one several times at the range where I make my noise. The fellow that bought it, bought it for the same reasons I would, better sights and features than the WWII Springfield at the same price. |
| The one thing I thought was funny is how they over priced all the options in the magazine ads to make it seem like you are getting the best of the best parts at less than half the cost. Don't get me wrong though, I like Taurus. I had a PT22 that was 100% reliable, which is especially nice considering it worked perfect with 550rd vlue pack HP from Walmart. I also still have a Taurus 85UL snub that is of course 100% reliable. |

I just bought one today at the local fun shop. No rounds downrange yet. I have to say the finish is a bit rough, but it seems well made and solid from an initail cleaning before use. Anyone have any break in tips? No to be had from the manual. I truly hope mine performs as well as the ones I've been reading about.,,I have to abmit to being a bit apprehensive about it. Thus far though, seems like all I may need is to have it refinished at some point. |
I agree on the finish & so far mine has ran really well I'm happy with it. |
| I finally got to the range today with my new PT1911. I ahve to say I'm quite please. Only had a little time so there's only 100 rounds through it now, but there were no FTF, FTE, or problems of any sort. Seemed to shoot to POA as well. I used the factory mags as well as a couple of Wilson 8 rounders and a McCormick 10 rounder..no problems. Not shooting for accuracy but it did pretty good on that score as well, with one 3 shot group at about 1.25 inches offhand at 7 yards. So far so good! Too soon to tell yet, but I hope this holds up long term! |
+1 same exp here. Love this ting. |
|
75 rounds and the safety fell off, the hammer follows the slide to half cock and the sites are shifted so far to the left that they hang off the gun.i am sending it back but it really annoys me that its all fucked up after so few rounds. if it matters when it was working it was nice. |
| I have one. Had a couple faliur to feeds on a couple cheap JHP's, but runs Federal Hydroshocks like a champ, same with FMJ. Finish is rough, but a silicine cloth smooths it out. I want mine as a combat gun anyways, so I don't care about a shiny, bling finish on it. The rough looks gives it character. Plus, it's my carry gun now, so the holster wear adds to it. No problems. You won't be disappointed. |

This is a very intersting thread. I've been doing some research on some of the lower end (under $800) 1911's, and I've heard lots of great things about the PT1911. It's hard to go out and spend $750 on a SA Loaded, or a S&W 1911.....when you are getting 95% of the same thing with the Taurus....for $500. If you had $800 to spend, would you save $300 and get the Taurus, or spend more for a Kimber Pro Carry II, SA Loaded, or a S&W SW1911? I just wish a dealer had one on the shelf so I could take a look at it. |
