try a search--several recent topics on em... www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=49&t=39813 www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=49&t=39736 www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=49&t=39352 www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=49&t=36636 www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=49&t=38879 i got one a month ago--a little over 100rnds through it, 0 problems from several diff brands of mags fit and finish is pretty tight, but not on par w/ other brands like SA or kimber; h/w, the bluing does wear off pretty easily and the machining on the PT1911 i got was a little rough on some areas (such as the FSC lines) i changed out that crappy, ugly hammer, threw it and the keys away, and replaced it w/ a WC commander hammer--works fine the henie sights are pretty nice, but i wish they were nights...but they work great the best feature on my PT1911 was the trigger pull; while the trigger phyisically had play, the break and pull is VERY nice and crisp (almost, if not as good as my kimber TLE) overally, the PT1911, disregarding the MIM parts, cruddy hammer, is a great 1911 for the money the general consensus on these is: they are great 1911s for the money, w/ the custom features that others charge a lot more for....h/w, its long term and high round count vs parts breakage/failure has yet to be determined readily since its still kinda new.... |

Regarding durability and mim parts. It is my understanding that Taurus actually manufactures the internals for the Springfield/Imbel guns. There should be no difference. This is a Plus 1 here. I like mine and intend to give my Colt a rest and put this one on my duty belt. |

I thought it was the other way around. IMBEL being the main Manufacturer in Brazil for a LONG time (before Taurus, I think?) I thought it was IMBEL (makers of fine FAL Rifles) that made 1911 parts for BOTH Taurus & Springfield. Not Taurus making them for Both IMBEL & Springfield. I may be wrong but I don't know HOW Taurus magically got contract to build for IMBEL unless they bought out IMBEL completely. Who knows. I just know that IMBEL has been around for a loooooong time so that's where I'm not sure of the info. Are ALL Taurus guns made in Brazil? |

Taurus is a megagiant by the standards of the firearms industry. They employ 2500 people. The mim technology and production is owned by Taurus. Guns are made in Brazil. Guns for military and police are final assembled in the US to meet contract requirements. I suppose its possible that Imbel is making some components and Taurus others and they are cross selling. I'm not sure how though they are related. |
