I stopped by the gun store to get some 9mm ammo and saw a Taurus 22 revolver.  I think it was the tracker.  They also had one in 22 mag.  I also liked the Walther P22 and Sig Mosquito, but I don't have a revolver anymore and want one.  I almost bought it but my wife happened to call and asked me to wait.  She wants to buy it for me tomorrow.  I also wanted to see what was Taurus' reputation for 22 revolvers before I bought it.  Any info or opinions would help.

Thanks!

I've heard pretty good things from a few friends who've used the .22 magnum version heavily in the field, and also a few online testimonials.

Seems from what I've read, that the only thing holding back the Taurus revolver line is the popularity of the brand name. I've never heard or read anything bad, but reports are far and few between.

How much accuracy would be lost by using 22LR in a 22 Mag?  They have both and even though I've never had a 22mag,  it would be nice to have that option.

You can't fire .22LR in a .22 Mag,you'd need to change cylinders.

.22LR is cheaper.

+1

As far as I know, the Taurus line doesn't offer interchangeable cylinders, but could easily be mistaken.

In revolvers that do offer interchangeability between 22mag and 22lr, I've heard it explained that the magnum round will be more accurate, (since the 22 Magnum is slightly larger @ .224" bullet diameter, providing a better bullet fit to the barrel), but I've never studied up on it, nor bought in to the idea that +/- .001" would provide enough difference in a handgun, using a relatively low velocity or short range round.

Dunno though....

Own a six inch Model 96, their mid size.  Good gun.  Accurate.  Decent trigger.  Good sites.  Grips fit nicely.

Mine is in 22lr.  I don't know if Taurus has done the interchangeable thing or not.  Frankly I've never had the slightest interest in the 22 mag so its a non-issue with me.

I ended up getting the M94 4" SS in 22LR.  I can't wait to take it out!

I've done this by mistake.  22LR cases split when fired in a magnum chamber. Not a good thing.

I have a 9 shot 5" blued Taurus that I really like.  It is almost perfect, except the barrel needs to be aligned better.  I had to run the rear sights all the way to the right to get it zero'd.  It ain't my eyes, because that is the only one I own with the symptom.  I may send it in for repair some day.  I have only had it for ......5 years.

I've got a older Taurus stainless model 94 9 shot and after a action job was done on it, it became a great plinker. My wife and kids like shooting it and so do I.

I bought a used 2" Taurus 94 in .22lr a while back.  Nice little gun for the money.

The main concern was with a weak hammer spring - once it was replaced it was as reliable as any rimfire firearm can be.

A smaller issue was the trigger pull - the single action is fairly smooth, but the double action is stiff.  (I've never tested to see what the actual poundage was).

I think a .22lr revolver is a fun handgun, and one of the best for teaching handgun skills.

Good luck.
