I am thinking of getting a new Taurus Millennium Pro PT145 in .45. Never had a Taurus, are they any good? I know there are better but funds are limited on this one. Thanks to all how respond Spelled WHO wrong

The PT Series has not been one of their better efforts, IMO. I would look at different offerings in the same price range, IMO. Even a used 1911 mil-spec would be a better choice, IMO. One thing about Taurus, they DO offer perhaps THE best customer service of almost anyone, right up there with Dillon & Brownells. My .o2

| My dad bought a millenium pro in .40 and a millenium in 9mm and they both shoot really well and feel really good. The only thing I noticed is that on his new 9mm the trigger is ver, very light. Good shooters. Lots of people don't like Taurus but lots don't like Glock so take it with a grain and decide what is best for you. maybe go to your local range and try to rent one. See if you like it. |
Two and a half months turnaround time on a gun isn't "the best customer service" , still if my PT145 runs like a champ when I get it back I'll be content. It seemed like a decent made gun when I bought it, I wouldn't expect it to hold up over a lifetime though. Put 1,000rds through it to check reliability and then shoot it enought to keep your skills up but I wouldn't shoot TEN's of thousands of rounds through it. Save that for the Glocks and well made 1911's.

That's not a ripoff but don't think your getting a terrific deal. They go for around $300 or sometimes less at the local gunshow here. Of course if you have to send it back to Taurus and your gun "guy" eats the shipping for you than that would be a good deal.

And I've seen them rebuild handguns that were blown apart by handloads & Taurus never batted an eye. They're basically a "no questions asked" kind of warranty & that, IMO, is THE best in the gun mfgrs. My .o2

Yup. I sent the old, worn out recoil spring and 2 magazines to my dad's ancient PT-945 back to Taurus when the gun started to malfunction (failure to feed). Prior to this the gun never malfed on us, ever. The post office lost the package, Taurus never received it. I called them and the girl I spoke to sent me a new recoil spring and 2 brand new magazines, free. Can't beat that with a stick. Oh, and it works perfectly again. |
| Taurus has sent me replacement parts no questions asked as well. The problem is, they seem to let the public do their QC checks for them and as many folks buy guns they tuck away in a closet and never fire, they sell alot of dogs I'd guess, that never get discovered. I will say this, once they get your gun, they seemingly keep it as long as they want to. At least they fix them though. Ruger sent my P90 back broken after they had it for quite awhile-they sent it back with the same non-resetting trigger I sent it to them complaining about. |
Same thing can be said for S&W and Ruger as well, and with the Ruger good luck with trying to BLOW it up. If you just want great customer service, even giving you free mags back with the gun then just go buy a $150 Hipoint. I don't wants to really knock Taurus though, I'll be quite happy if my PT145 runs like a champ when I get it back no matter how long it takes. My PT1911 is an awesome, accurate gun.

So the completely blown apart Super Redhawk on display at my local range is really an illusion?
|
Never underestimate the stupidity of some people. Ruger's are damn tough, but even they don't fare to well with a full case of Win231 or Tightgroup
|
The sign says it was a double charged reload. It was quite literally blown to pieces.

Bad, BAD personal experience with two different Taurus handguns (Millinium .45 Auto & Raging Bull .44 Mag Revolver). Both suffered repeated part failures (with factory ammo) and repeated trips back to Taurus for "Lifetime Warranty" service. As far as I'm concerned...their warranty means you're gonna' be dealing with them for the rest of your LIFE! However, in fairness, Taurus DID eventually (fully) resolve all issues with these two handguns, but by then I regretted both of my purchases and was completely OUT OF PATIENCE. I've owned literally scores of firearms from dozens of different manufacturers. I do not expect (nor have I experienced) perfection from all of them. Mechanical devices, just like people, aren't flawless. But I HAVE decided that money spent in the pursuit of superb quality is a much better bet than money saved in pursuit of a value bargain. My gunsafe now holds names like Volquartsen, Klienguenther, S&W, Ruger, Browning...but you won't (ever) find another Taurus in there. |

Taurus is good. I've had a PT92AR SS, PT945 SS, and still have my PT1911. I've never had one single problem. I once smashed the front sight on my PT945 and called Taurus about it. 4 days later I had the replacement. Heck, I bought my PT92 2 weeks before the 10 round ban was up. A few weeks later, Taurus had a offer on their site that entitled anyone who bought a pistol within a certain time frame before the ban could submit some info and get a full capacity magazine. I received a magazine 2 weeks after I submitted my info! I wouldn't hesitate in buying another Taurus, and I won't. |

I did not like my pt145 pro. Initially, I was stoked on the 10 rounds of 45 in such a small package, but the grip did not lend itself to an easily achived shooting grip with my hands. The DAO trigger sucked and would pinch my finger between it and the triggerguard every time I shot it. It did not give me any function problems though, but I sold it after a few months for a huge loss. You NEED to be sure you like shooting this gun and can quickly ready it for ACCURATE shooting. Saving your money for a couple more months to buy a gun in the $450 to $600 price range will be much more rewarding in the long run. Glock, Springfield, S&W, CZ, Beretta, Magnum Research, Sig(ususally a certified pre-owned), and a few others all make guns with great egonomics, high reliablility and MUCH better resale value than taurus. I learned this the hard way. I still own a taurus, but it's a small 38spl that I only shoot for fun and would carry as a back up to my primary weapon. |
