I have been looking for a speed loader for my model 85 and came across HKS's brand at a local gun shop but was told alot of 85 owners werent having good luck with them because of clearence issues. So are there other choices that would work or are they full of shit at the gun shop?

I have the 850, which is basically the exact same gun, and mine works fine. I think it's model# 36-A(?) I actually like my stock grips. It's my understanding there's no clearance problem with stock grips. They have them at midwayusa on their site for $6.99. I paid $9 for mine ay a local gun shop because I had a Christmas gift certificate there.

I have used that speedloader for a lot of years with a S&W modael 36, Taurus 85 and Taurus 650.   You will find that it probably will not sit down to the rear of the cylider due to the diameter of the speedloader.  If you can get over that issue, more times than not the rounds will be more than 1/2 way into the cylinder and it works just fine.............

If your 85 has the stock grips you will have problems with the HKS speedloader. Try the Safariland speed loaders. They are just enough smaller that they work really well on the Taurus small frame revolvers. When I carry my 605(also a small frame) I carry a couple speed strips wich are easier to carry in my pockets. They aren't as fast as the speed loaders, but they are faster then trying to reload one at a time.

Wonder if that loader would work on a Rossi 68.......same pistol pretty much isn't it?
