There are a bunch of threads on this. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=4&t=35008 www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=49&t=36121 www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=49&t=34936 www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=49&t=34221 I like my PT1911. |
You paid too much. Quit driving up the price. Afterall, the chink 1911 only goes for $325 Canadian, which is like $290 real dollars! canuck/chink 1911 Which reminds me, I just bought the new Spyderco knife made in china. It's $20 and pretty much as good as their $100 models.

Who gives a crap? Yeah... some guys here like to get preachy and act like we're dealing with religion when talking about the 1911. I LOVE the 1911. Hate just about every other semi-auto pistol made (except the Kahr stuff and Browning's HP). But if YOU like it and it works for YOU, then that's all that matters. I get tired of the brand snobbery that goes on here. I have two Charles Daly 1911's (ECS and EFS) that I've had for years and fired almost 2k rounds through with nary a problem (once I dispensed with the stock mags and started using McCormicks). But some here would have me be ashamed for owning such "junk". That's idiotic, as MY Daly's will stop me from being murdered just as well as any Wilson, Baer, Brown or Caspian. Yeah, I'd LOVE to have an example or ten from each of those makers. But for now, it'll have to be my two Daly's and my new Taurus (that is flawless in several hundred rounds now of testing). I also have had a pair of Taurus M44 revolvers (still have one of them) that I've put over 1K hot .44 mag reloads through without ONE single issue. I only sold the one because it was a 3" unported DAO snubbie that was just getting too painful to shoot. If someone here looks down on the Taurus PT1911, they'd have to have spent some time with one for their input to carry any weight with me. And even then, since mine's been flawless -- it wouldn't matter much anyway. As far as JMB rolling over in his grave at the thought of you or I owning a Taurus -- the guy is one of my idols -- but he could pound sand if that's the way he felt. My life, my money, MY toys... |

I love mine. I own a $2000 custom job which is sweet. But, the Taurus was a great buy and I love shooting it. Great trigger right out of the box. Nice set of features. My PT1911 is accurate and fits my hand like a glove. Best $500 I spent on a pistol hands down. I don't think you'll regret it. ARDog |
So how do we interpret your ignorance? ![]() Do you contend that JMB wouldn't approve because a company made a no-frills, affordable 1911, or he wouldn't approve because it shoots very well right out of the box? |
I pay cash for any and all toys. And that's probably for the best, because if I found myself standing in front of a shiny new Ed Brown Bobtail Kobra Carry... then I'd surely swipe my card and take it home. |
| Easy, easy, I appreciate nice guns but I am no gun snob. I suppose sarcasim is a little hard to relate over the internet. If I cared what other people thought, I would have had to spend at least 2x the money for a similar gun. The Taurus is a good gun so far, and appears to be a GREAT value for the $. |

I paid 500$ for mine today. I can never find deals in my area like you guys seem to get. My area sucks tho.... I played with a ton of different 1911's today and I couldn't justify the extra cash for a Kimber. The Taurus felt so much better than the SA GI model IMO. I thought I'd give the pt1911 a try. I have a feeling it will be a good shooter. |
And this is what the Norinco looks like all gussied up: |

Alright, what's the whole issue over this. I'm setting up a group by at my agency to get a few of these. So what if it's not a Colt/Kimber/Springer. If I wanted a Colt, I'd go buy another. Or a Springer, or a Caspian (I have one of each). It seems that most people are buying these just to be shooters. I wont carry my Colt because I don't want the wear marks on it. So what if the Taurus doesn't have as nice a finish. Perhaps the corners aren't as smooth. And what? A gifted smith won't take my $1500 to work on my $450-500 gun that already works just fine? Am I missing something here? Listen, here's my qualification for a (carry) gun. 1. If I pull trigger, does said gun go bang? 2. Does the bullet go where I want it to go? 3. Can I duplicate the process until the magazine is empty? I'm not getting mine to replace what I have, I'm getting one to have a carry gun that I won't wet my undies if I put a nick in it. Good Lord, quit drinking the kool aid and let it go! Buy a Taurus, shoot it and enjoy! If you are afraid your Colt will get jealous, don't get one! It's like the Colt guys are a bunch of country club members worrying about a minority trying to join. Why do you even care? Rant over. |
I'm curious as to why you think this. Its not like he had an exclusive contract with colt or anything. I think he'd love to see that the function of his design has went virtually unchanged in 100 years. Cosmetic differences aside, of course.
And you will put many nicks in it! I have not even broke the 1k mark, but I have quite a few tiny scratches on the slide. No failures, and it was dead on at 25 yards all the ammo I had shot until my last range session when the sights came loose ![]() I am changing a few cosmetic things then getting the whole gun parkerized, although those two-tone OD jobs look awful nice too... |
And that it is such a perfect machine that already successful manufacturers are adding it to their lineup. |
