Are there any differences between the older PT- 99S and the new ones??

As SGB says...plus some cosmetics, like cocking serrations, grips, rollmarks and of course, those ten round magazines. Nothing major other than the decocker. A friend just got the SS in .40...nice shooter!

I hate to sound dumb but what is the decocker on the safety?

The Taurus decocker/safety lever does both tasks. Up is on safe, down decocks the hammer (lowers hammer safely) then springs back to the "fire" position ready for a double action shot. The older ones merely had a safety, which was fine too.

Are they suppose to do that anothergene? Mine doesn't and along with finding it very frustrating I always wondered WTF!! Why not what!

Yup, Striker, its supposed to spring back to the middle position, ready to go. Maybe "work" it a bit to see if it loosens up? Also with the slide off, a drop of oil in the right spots may help it along?  And I don't know if, when stuck in the down position, pulling the trigger will override the lever, allowing the shot. Would be nice to know...

Well mine doesn't. As for pulling the trigger when it's down..it disengages the trigger somehow. It will move but it doesn't do anything. I've put several hundred rounds through it and oiled it every which way but it still doesn't spring back. It takes some effort to move it up to fire position.
Wonder if I should contact Taurus!!!

Yes, spring-loaded return from hammer drop feature of the safety should be there. Really nice. My pistol's (PT 92 AFS) like butter.

Just another thought, Striker. If you have aftermarket grips...remove them and try the lever again. They may ask you that question. If thats not it, will the dealer help you, either by looking at or in shipping the weapon?

If you do send it back the info is there. They generally have a quick turn around.
