I aquired a Taurus revolver, but can't find it on their website to find out what model it is. The revolver part of their site kinda sucks because it has 10-15 categories to choose from, and some revolvers come up in more than one category.

Anyway, its a 5 shot .45 colt with a 2 inch ported barrel and regular hammer with a fullsize grip.

I'm not familiar with the 45 colt round, is it the same as 45 long colt? And if so, isn't that quite a round for a 2 inch barreled snubby?

That is the 450 model. I had one a few years ago and it's a nice shooting revolver. I used silvertips in mine. I didn't think it was too much cartridge for the small frame. They make a 41 magnum in that same frame that they call the 415.

How hot are the silvertips? Would the hot 45 Colt loads be a problem for this frame as far as the frame holding up?

Yes the 45 colt is sometimes called 45 long colt. As 10mmillie said they make a similar model in 41 mag. The 41mag loaded at upto 40000 cup. while the standard loads for the 45 colt are loaded to 14000  cup. so I don't think that you will have any problems with pressure. But I would stay away from the super high pressure 45 loads that Buffalo Arms and some of the others load for the big hunting revolvers, not so much because the gun won't take them as shooting them in a snubby might not be real fun.

I think that gun with sivertips would be an excellent defense revolver.

Camel,
The silvertips didn't seem very hot to me. The lead practice rounds seemed hotter but it's been so long now I can't recall who made them. I remember thinking that the silvertips made the most out of that short of a barrel. It was a good gun and I kick myself for trading it.

I had always liked that revolver & almost bought one w/o the ports IIRC. However the forcing cone concerned me as it was very thin & I passed. Now ya got me thinking again.
