What's the average terminal performance of winchester white box .40 S&W 180gr JHP's. I'm carrying them for work right now, and I'd like to know if they'll suffice, or I need something more expensive, like Gold Dots or CorBons. Also, suggestions on what, if I do in fact need to change, I should change to would be appreciated. |

Brassfetcher uses calibrated gelatin for their testing www.brassfetcher.com/Various%20.40S&W%20JHPs%20(II).html
when i tested this ammo in wetpack the average diameter was ~.66 and penetrated an average of 12" in unclothed pack. [didn't have a chronograph for velocity] this is my shtf ammo and i have a whole shitload of it in the USA well as Super-X and Subsonic designation - they're all the same thing. left to right - 4 layers of denim - tshirt, denim & flannel - tshirt - bare pack ![]() ![]() ![]() full-size image click pic: ![]() this ammo is by no means a first-rate or top selection for defense; there are much better choices available. it does have a few positive things going for it: - you can get it on sale for dirt cheap - it has a great feed profile - it's accurate out of my Glock - hard-hitting - aperature doesn't tend to get clogged with clothing material ![]() |

I think R_C hit the nail on the head. It's good ammo to store or train with because it works pretty good and it's plentiful and cheap, but it would not be my first choice for a carry round. If cost is your main concern either buy from a supplier like Doubletap or watch the sales at Outdoor Marksman, Sportsmans Guide, Natchezss, Midway USA, etc, etc. |
