I have an old Mk2 6-7/8" slabside black 22/45. it is ACCURATE, but prefers CCI for reliability. Likely due to all the springs I have swapped to get it to a sub 2 lb trigger.
I have a can on the way and have two options 1 Thread it 2 sell it and buy a new shorty Mk 3 I have seen one place that threads for $145, but is there a cheaper place that will still do it right. I do NOT need one of those custom fit thread protectors or anything. I'll put an A1 birdcage on it. $145 and sell the gun would put me very close to a factory Mk 3 threaded. I would guess I could get $200 for it even its worn. It is rust and pit free, but well used as a note, I already have a MP22 compact for the "short" tactical fun. I love this long barrel because I can and HAVE killed critters over 75 yards away with it. I do not care if bulk pack ammo is supersonic. |

I would just buy a new threaded upper and keep the MKII parts to swap back and forth.
22/45 lite threaded barrel $159 22/45 lite cobalt threaded $159 MKIII threaded $129 They also have blue and stainless mk3 uppers for $99 that you could get chopped and threaded and still keep your MKII. A 6&7/8ths barrel MKII is not very common, not near as common as the 5.5's I would try and keep it or if you dont care than trade it off for something else, but the 6.78 is worth more I think. |

I had no idea mine was rare. I had to special order it back in 2001, but I thought only the STAINLESS 6-7/8" MKII government models had any collectors value. This is a BLUED 6.875" slabside on a 22/45 frame. It was only listed in 1 or 2 spots back when, but I wanted the accuracy of the government model without the cost. I paid the same price as a 10" MKII, but I really did not like the MK II frame. I HAD to have the 22/45 frame. So is this thing worth more than a 5.5? By how much? I like the barrel length and accuracy so much I really wanted to use it with the can, but if I am wrecking a classic or rarity I might change my mind. BY THE WAY...THANKS FOR THE LINKS TO THE EE. |

I never claimed it was Rare, just not as common and harder to find and as a shooter they are more desirable.
I can find used 5.5"s pretty easy but 6.78"s are much harder to find. I did not realize you did not want to chop the barrel, but only thread it. Generally these types of posts are an owner that wants to chop his barrel down to make bulk ammo subsoninc. I have seen guys chop up the Government and longer barrel target models to as short as 2" and they could have done the same thing to a more common variety such as the 5.5", or if going very short, they dont need a heavy barrel at all, a standard model would have had the same end results. When I do come across a 6.78" 22/45 it has always been more than the 5.5" 22/45, $100 more is about the price difference. I have never came across a slabside 22/45 like you describe except once on Gunbroker. If it is your pet project and want the longer barrel for an easy to shoot supressed pistol for subsonic ammo, go for it, but I would have a nice slabside thread protector made up to match. |

So these MkIII uppers would drop right on a MkII with no other mods? |
