I took 4 guns to the range...

Taurus Tracker

5 rounds 45 ACP ported....  Grip is really small, even for me (small fingers) but with lighter loads this thing ain't bad.  trigger is a bit too light in SA for me, and the trigger is too long in DA.  note that the DA pull is not hard, just long.  She's got glock type sights with a weak U outline and a ramp in front.   I'll probably be selling this one.  To make her nice, I'd have to change the grips and sights AND get used to the trigger in DA which I don't plan on doing!  The moon clips are comething else though, fasest I've ever unloaded a revolver, tell you that much.  Once I sell this guy I will DEFINITELY be getting a SW 625 Miculek version.  I have a 386 PD and I like SW's triggers alot, plus they'll give me 6 rounds of 45 and I can get the HIVIZ sight sI like on them from the factory.

Springfield Armory Loaded,

just got back from Novak's with new sights - ghost ring bar dots with tritium inserts.  I was shooting WAY low the whole time.  the dot's correct placement, as installed, is WAY over the  line created by the tips of the rear ring.  Once I got used to it however, it wasn't bad at all.  But these sights are not like the straight eights or XS sights where you place two aiming points one sitting on the other.  The dot rests within the imaginary circle here, whose center is WAY above the pistol.....

In the following pic you see the top one is how I thought it should be, the bottom one is how it is, with an imaginary circle drawn for emphasis:

some more actual pics:

I had had mag problems with her, but this time they weren't so bad.  A few FTF's and a few FTE's, I will not be using this gun in any life threatening situation till me and a real 1911 buff figure out just what causes these problems.

Kimber Pro TLERL II

Shot pretty well.  Very comfy interms of front and sides.  My thumbweb area got to hurting after 100 rounds or so though.  I was holder her real low due to lack of 'hump' on grip safety.  I'm unsure if I can replace it with an ed brown grip safety cause I knwo the Kimber firing pin safety is connected to teh grip somehow (?)....  in teh begining mags were unseating during firing, but that problem went away after a while.  Some SXTS nose dived into the ramp, a sharp rack got them in thgouh.  A few rounds FTE, again a asharp rack got them out.  Maybe I was limp wristing it due to the low hand position, I don't know.  I need to shoot her more to trust her.  Looks sweet as hell though!

Note that twhile the 230 SXT's gave me a little beating and nosedived twice, the 185 grain Winchester super X's were magnificent and WILL Be the load that I use in this pistol when I carry it.

HK P7M8

First time out with this gun.  I can without a doubt proclaim that this is the finest handgun ever produced.  What more can i say.  The trigger is a gift form teh heavens, the sights are just right, the grip is unreal, the mag release is amazing (much better than teh USP ambis, imo) the slide release is natural, and I was EASIlY shooting 4 inch groups at 50 feet.  (I have trouble shooting 6 inch groups at 15 feet with other guns....  I'm that bad)  24 rapid fire rounds at 25 ft all went in a fist sized area center mass on an IPSC target.  This was done without really aiming, that's how instinctive this gun is.  I've only been collecting pistols for 4-5 months now, but I've been through at least 30 and I can say this is the finest I've ever fired and I am veyr happy I bought it.

that's it.

the P7 is without a doubt the finest firearm I have ever handled.  you can shoot it anytime, but be warned.  I bought one within one week of holding someone else's.

Nice collection! I think your SA would be happier if you replaced those nasty grip screws with a set of hex screws

Go put a bunch of rounds through the P7 and see if you get malfs. I bought one of the first W German police guns years ago when they were first imported. I thought I'd found the perfect gun, too.....until I shot about 200 rds at one time. After about 200 rds, the slide started hanging up when open and had to be nudged on the rear to close. It wasn't just a little out of battery, it was hanging up fully open. I'd clean it very well and it would be good for another 200 rds. Didn't matter whether I shot reloads or factory ammo, it did this every time after about 200 rds. I called H&K, they completely blew me off, wouldn't even fix it if I paid for it (and no, I didn't expect them to fix a well-used gun for free) and they told me I was out of luck. Sold it for the $600.00 I had in it. Pity, it was all you said, mine just wasn't reliable enough. After the way H&K treated me, no more H&K for me! Good luck, I kinda think it was just my gun. Quite a few others have them and love them. I'd love to try another but I won't shell out however much they are nowadays if the frigging factory tells me I am out of luck!

One huge +1. My P7 PSP is the finest handgun I have ever fired. I can see no other pistol as superior for CCW.

I pout roughly 200 rounds through it .  CCI blazer FMJ and MAgtech +p hp, not one failure of any kind.  plus I live near HK. if there was a problem, I'd knock on their door!

My P7M8 has gone as far as 500 rounds of quality ammo without cleaning without failure, but cleaning the gas system after a couple hundred rounds is a good idea.

I've heard of similar problems with the gas system clogging after a few 100 rounds. Wonder if that matters for carry though, so long as the gun is 100 percent reliable when clean (and always kepth that way).

MAN! And I thought I was bad/sick.

Good report chapperjoe!

I would send the springfield back to have the sights fixed.  That is WAY off for a gun.  If the sights don't work for your intended purpose (target shooting), and the gun isn't 100% reliable you will never get much use out of it.

p.s.  How is the remodeled NRA range?

Listen to this man.  Your sights are pretty much worthless as is for anything but a range toy.

Also, if you are having reliability issues, consider having Springfield repair it. They do have a lifetime warranty-assuming that this pistol hasn't been "worked on" by a hobbyist gunsmith.

I have no personal experience other than holding a squeeze cocker H&K. I wonder how much fun it would be to hold/squeeze/shoot that puppy through an extended pistol course where you are firing 100s of rounds a day?

Did you guys read the other thread - or even this one? The sights are fine; it's operator error.

You really are pleasant, aren't you?

Other thread? As I obviously didn't read the thread above, I must have missed the link. In fact, I STILL don't see it. I did find it after the fact in the 1911 forum. If the sights are intended to work like that, they suck. Much like your attitude.

Have a nice day.

Wow!

What do they put in the NY water, anyway? Maybe you guys oughta take a vacation. That place is turning y'all into real jerks.

I didn't say anything unpleasant - you just took it that way.

We'll all get along better when you knock that chip off your shoulder.

I don't think it's operator error.. how did you get that from my other post?  the sights were designed this way, I just wan tto tweak them.

If it is off so much that the blade of the sight needs to be noticably above the level of the rear sight I would be REALLY tempted to either have it tweaked or replace the sights.  What distance are you shooting at?

If you have to raise the front sight so high that you see the front of the slide, I would expect there is a problem, despite other claims to the contrary. Even if it is a design problem. Try calling Novak and see what they say. Unless you already have and I missed that in your thread(s) as well

If nothing else, maybe they will allow some sort of exchange for standard Novak night sights.

+1

New sights shouldn't be that far off at less than 7 yards.  If you move the target out further (a LOT further) you can take advantage of the ballistic arch, but I doubt those sights are supposed to be regulated for 50 yards.
