Heys guys.  Picked up one of the gen 2 Tisas 2011's.  Shoots great so far!

I'm planning on putting a couple cases of 9mm through it here soonish.  Figured by the time I do that, I'll need to replace some of the springs, specifically the recoil spring.  I'm pretty new to 1911's - I've owned a couple in the past, but never shot them enough to really wear out springs and such.  But I know that Tisas's are somewhat known for not having the best springs in them.

Questions below, and I'm somewhat on a budget on this, keep that in mind.  Also, I have the compact version.  And I'm looking at reliability over raceyness, etc.

1.  What kind of spring do I need for the full length guide rod that the Gen 2 Tisas's have?  I'm fine with the same weight, I just want to pick up a couple replacement springs and want decent ones.

2.  Springs in general, I'd like to get a pack of replacement springs for all the springs.  Again, I don't need anything racey or whatever, regular strength is fine.  I just need good ones.

3.  Any specific, easy, cheap other upgrades that I should look at doing as I go?  Specifically things that are known to wear out quickly on Tisas guns, but also 'oh here's something cool and cheap you can do'!  I'm not talking stoning parts or anything, just something simple.  I'm looking at getting a new plunger setup for the safety for example.  Make it more tactile.

4.  Magazine springs - I'm planning on getting more of the same magazines that came with the gun.  Someone told me it's worth putting +10% springs in them.  I know some guns benefit from the more powerful springs.

5.  Any other general ideas / tips?  The only other thing I'm looking at doing right now is possibly swapping in a staccato factory trigger if I can find one at a decent price.  But that's not a priority.

I have a second generation Duty B9R as well and replace all of the springs and sanded the slide lock shaft with 400 grit emery cloth to remove some of the coting on it.

I went with a Wilson Combat full rebuild spring kit for a regular 5 inch 1911 and ordered 12 LB 5 inch springs as well to replace the 10LB that comes with the kit, which is the same as factory stock spring.

Wolf Springs also has a full respring kit as well and Atlas sells allot of different recoil spring weights as well for the 5 inch and the 4.25 inch.

I would recommend that you replace the stock Checkmate magazine springs with the Atlas +15% Overpowered springs. The springs that came with the Checkmates started to fail with in the first 1000 rounds, so now I just replace them as I buy them.

I have the 4.25" version - what is the spring weight for the compact version?  (You said the duty was 12 pounds)

Would you get the full size spring kit that wilson combat offers (the one you got), or the commander spring kit - for my compact Tisas?

And thanks for the magazine spring recommendation, I figured that would be a thing.

One more question - the regular recoil springs will work with the full length guide rod I assume?  Or do you need something special for them.

Well Tisas says this on their spring weights, which I think they changed again......

"Below is a list of the common spring weights of our 1911 pistols.

1911 Duty .45ACP Recoils Spring: 16lb.
1911 Duty 9MM Recoil Spring: 14lb.
1911 Carry .45ACP Recoil Spring: 18lb.
1911 Carry 9MM Recoil Spring: 16lb.
1911 Duty 10MM Recoil Spring: 23lb.
1911 All Models Hammer Spring: 23lb.
PX-9 Gen 3 Duty non-threaded Recoil Spring: 16lb.
PX-9 Gen 3 Duty threaded Recoil Spring: 13.2lb."

Wolf Springs also says the stock is 16lb as well, so I would go with that as a starter.

"Super .38/9mm Note:
The factory recoil spring rating for the Commander Super .38 & 9mm calibers is 16 pounds. When ordering above recoil springs for these calibers, please take this difference into consideration."

As for the full spring kit, I would go with the wolf kit since it will come with the correct weight spring out of the box. The Wilson Combat kit will require you to buy the correct 9mm recoil spring since it only comes with a 20lb 45 ACP spring.

Atlas Gunworks also makes recoil springs as well LINK.

In both of my 5 inch 9mm 1911 and 2011's, I went with a 12lb spring after trying 14lb and 10lb springs. I found that I liked the way it felt and handled the recoil. So you might want to get a few different weight springs and see what weight you like and then just use that weight in your 4.25 inch Tisas.

BTW, both of my  5 inch Tisas came with 10lb recoil springs, so I would not be surprised if your was/is under sprung as well.

Roger roger.  I'll grab a pack of different recoil springs in that range and play with them.

One more question and I think I'm good.

As for the full springs kits, other than the recoil spring, is there a difference in the springs between the 5" and the commander size spring packs?  IE, I have the 4.25" tisas 2011, you have the 5" duty.  You got the 5" spring kit.  Should I get the 5" spring kit, even though my tisas is the 4.25" one?  (other than the recoil spring, I'm talking about all the other springs)  Or should I get the commander spring kit?  I am asking because other than the barrel length, aren't the 4.25" Tisas 2011's the same as the 5" Duty one like you have?  So the only difference should be the recoil spring, unless I'm wrong somewhere?

The only difference between the full size and commander kits is the recoil spring length, the rest of the springs in the kit are the same for both and will interchange just fine.

If you do not have a full size 1911, I would stick with the Wolf Spring kit for the commander. For different weight recoil kits, I would look at Wolf or Atlas Gunworks. Both have a good selection of recoil springs and kits for the commander sized 1911's.

For videos on how to tune the flat spring and do other tweaking in your 1911, I would watch a few of the YouTube videos from Atlas Gunworks.
