So, I'm sitting here thinking about going to a MN conceal and carry class tomorrow. $100 plus a $15 range fee for the MN UT permits.
I've been wanting to get this for over several years but, I'm really undecided if I should do it or not. Then is it every five years you have to go through the same class again? |
| Are you questioning the expense or whether you really want to carry a gun? The expense broken up over the years the license is good makes it a pretty good deal when you think about it. The price of a box or two of ammo a year? As far as carrying a gun, just because you have the license, doesn't mean you have to carry every day or everywhere you go. There were a couple people doing the renewel when I took my class and one of the guys had only carried his a handful of times, usually he just kept it in the car which you don't need the license to do. It's peace of mind knowing that if you want to or need to carry, you can legally. |
|
yep |
| Do it, but don't just get the permit and carry "when you feel like it". Make a commitment to carry all day, every day, when legal. After a while it be a habit, just like having a wallet or cell phone. It takes time, but just keep carrying until it becomes a part of you. Was that inspiring? |
|
Pretty much. You're trying to decide if you should go ahead and get this stuff done, get your permit, and carry? I can't understand why anyone would not do it. Do it. |
|
Well I went to the range first thing at 10AM and did my 10 round firing exercise. First time firing a pistol and I did alright.
Then I was done at 10:30 and went home for awhile. Class went from 12:30 till 5 and overall it was VERY informational and I'm glad that I went. He told me that the local Sheriff will most likely charge $100 for the application/Permit fee. I inculded the Utah permit and that only cost's $65.95 and it is recognized in MN. So, I'm not gonna get the MN version of the permit, Only the Utah. |

Quoted:
It is your moral obligation to carry a sidearm. You really don't think the police are their to help or save you right? They are strictly reactionary and are of no value to you or your family for protection Very well-put. Sounds like something Mr. Ted Nugent would say. |
|
There is another decision you need to make way ahead of time.....
Do you have it inside you to actually use your weapon without hesitation should the need arise? Could you shoot someone in the head and splatter their blood and brains all over your face and clothes? You can hope and pray you are never in that situation but the permit does you no good if you don't : (A) Carry daily (B) Have the required mindset to do what you have to. |
|
Guns are icky and they're uncomfortable to carry. And they're dangerous. Mine keeps threatening me. You probably shouldn't even own them. You should get rid of yours by transfering them to me so that mine can have a friend and not be so cranky any more. Then we can both be safe. |
|
Well you could stand on the principle of feeling like you shouldn't need a permit to carry a firearm with you. There is a Constitutional argument for that.
Then there is your reality. Get the permit. Carry a gun. Likely never need it. But if you do, you'll still be here to tell us the story. |

Some states do not recognize non-resident permits. For example: My NM CCW license is OK in Colorado, but my Florida permit is not. |

BTW: Not only should you carry...you need to talk other good people into doing the same. WTF kind of question was that in the first place? The STATE will try to make it: expensive, difficult, a PITA and all...but we will not be discouraged or detered. Sort of like NFA...you can 'own' just about anything IF YOU TAKE THE TIME. |

Congratulations on completing your class and deciding to get your permit. I would consider getting your MN permit also, just because if you need to show it to a LEO you won't have to explain why you have a MN address, MN drivers license and a Utah permit to carry. Technically legal, I know. If you can get a permit in your state of residence without jumping through a lot of hoops, etc., that would be my first choice. Then you can add Utah, FL, etc., as needed. Just My Opinion.

Just a quick update. I got the blue finger print card done this past Thursday for free from the local PD. I then filled out the Utah App this morning and had a local banker at Wells Fargo sign a Notary on it for FREE.
The one thng i noticed in the section: Please read and sign the statement below. It says; "I, JIMSZR2, Hereby certify that the statements........ Signature _________________ Date___________ Subscribed and sworn to this_____________ day of _______________ 20__________ ________________________________ Notary Public He signed in the signature portion and filled in the dates and the Notary Public line is blank. Will they reject it? |

I pissed around for a year or two after Ohio got the CHL law passed. Then one night my wife was at work at the hospital and a robbery at the bank across the street went horribly wrong. Robber shot it out with the Police Officer working private duty. Robber abandoned his car and ran in the direction of the hospital. He was still unaccounted for at the end of her shift. Officer died and left a widow and child.
AUGH> She wanted me to walk her to her car with a gun. Open carry while legal was really not an option (Ohio OC while legal is rarely ever seen. It will draw unwanted LEO attention.). I had to carry without a license or risk no pie for the next ten years. Better to have it and NEVER even carry, than to really need it one night. |

After hearing a lot of people talking about it and several friends taking it, a guy at work asked me a while back "So, all4freedom, should I take that stupid concealed carry thing?"
I said "Sounds like you've already made up your mind..." I prefer to protect myself and my family at all costs. Taking one in the melon on my knees in a parking lot isn't my cup of tea. |

Well, I sent off all my paperwork to the Utah BCI center in Salt Lake City. I called them to see how long it was taking them. Lady on the phone was very nice and said they were doing everything they could to get caught up. She told me anywheres from 30-90 days to get it all done. |

go be a sheep and get a rape whistle.?. hell no! get the freakin permit and carry your fuckin gun!
