I have a CZ SP-01 that I love to shoot. Gun is in 9mm, and I love everything about it.
Was kicking around the idea of threading it to 1/2-28 for a can later on down the road. Adco con thread the barrel by making a barrel "extension" and then threading the extension. Nobody currently makes an extended barrel to thread for the gun. I was going to have a custom Kydex holster made for it, one that would hold the gun plus a Surefire X-300. Making the holster a little longer (or open at the bottom) would not be an issue. Gun is used as my night-stand gun, so I do not have to worry about the extra length from a conceal carry point-of-view. I currently do not have any cans, nor do I have paperwork in the process, so it will be quite a while till it gets a suppressor added onto it. So what do you guys say? Thread it now? Or wait? Or not at all? Funds are not an issue, as I wouldn't even consider this if money was tight. Was also thinking about maybe adding some kind of break onto the end while it waited for the suppressor, so it could serve a purpose in the mean time (not that the gun is uncontrollable lol). |

I think I'd pick up a cheap 9mm Glock and buy a barrel for it, making that pistol your dedicated suppressed weapon.
It would be a whole lot cheaper in the end and you wouldn't have to mess up the CZ (which you obviously like), have it out of action, the expense, etc. This is a game I've played quite a bit and speak from long and expensive experience. |

Threading a separate barrel would work, however the barrel's from CZ have to be fitted to the gun, I asked about that before. I had also looked at possibly buying the Tactical Sports barrel, as it is longer, and possibly threading that. The barrel would have to be fitted though, and CZ does not recommend that (not sure why, they didn't say). I have heard of people going this route without issue though, so I'm not sure how well it would work. I have also looked into the older "drop in" EFK Fire Dragon barrels, however I have heard some really bad things about their CZ barrels and don't feel like taking that risk. Plus, they aren't mad anymore, so I'd have to either find a used one or come across one new by some miracle. As to buying a new gun, that would work, however it would set me back more money, and I really wasn't looking forward to that. I would go with some kind of full sized Glock, but then that would leave my CZ to sit in the safe, not what I wanted to do. |

Fitting a CZ barrel is supposed to be really simple, there are instructions online. It's basically just filing a couple pads on the back of the barrel. That said, I have not done it...yet. I just checked some of my older emails going back and forth with CZ Custom. Back in April, it was hinted at the fact that CZ Custom would be making some factory, extended barrels for the SP-01. I just checked the site, and found some extended CZ 75 barrels, but nothing for the SP-01 (has a larger barrel O.D. than the CZ 75). I sent them an email asking for an update of the SP-01 barrels. I would love to get a factory extended barrel and have that threaded, that would be awesome. |

Only on the internet do you need a threaded barrel or a can. For 99.9% of people it is a novelty. I would spend the money elsewhere. Allot of people don't NEED more than a dozen AR15's, but some have them anyways. Fair point. I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't NEED one, but I WANT one, and I figure if I do it little by little and save my "play money" up, then why not? I mean, it IS badass to have lol |

Just got an email about the extended SP-01 CZ barrels. Said they should be ready by the end of the year.
What I could (and probably should do) is get my paperwork in now and then get the CZ barrel when it is ready for the public. Should be around the same time, if not close. |

Almost every one says something similar to this until they get some real experience. I haved worked at a FFL/SOT for eight years, and I am finally getting into NFA stuff, and suppressors now. My only complaint is that I waited so long, but at least the suppressors are better today. Quoted:
Not much point to having a threaded extension hanging out there doing nothing. Don't bother until you have a suppressor on order. By then you may likely have moved on to another platform anyway. Agreed. Getting a threaded barrel in a gun is the least of your problems. If you decide to by a suppressor today, you will be lucky to take it home before March 2013. Get the can in process, then worry about your host. CZ USA might have the extended barrel available for your gun by the time you actually posses a suppressor. |

(I'm just messing with you) But seriously, who cares about need... Do people need 800+ HP from a diesel truck? NO Do people need a 50" (or bigger) HDTV? NO Do people need premium steaks from the grocery store? NO If you have the funds, and enjoy it, then who gives a shit on how people spend thier money |
