We are trying to put together a torture test for our favorite pistols at an upcoming shoot here in VA. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=24&t=176194 I am trying to get some input to help make this as fair a test as possible. I have a similar thread running in the VA forums, but I figured the handguns forum would widen the pool of information. If anyone has any suggestions on what they would like to see included, or what they would consider fair please post it. I do want to say that I don't want this to be a pissing match on which pistol everyone thinks is going to win. Thanks! |

Exactly. The pistols that perform the best for long periods of time in bad conditions are the best choice for everyday carry guns. Pistols the REQUIRE a lot of lube and REQUIRE that they be spotless clean before they are reliable work fine on indoor ranges but they fail in the real world. |

Seeing that none of the civilians here crawl around in the mud and goes weeks without cleaning their weapon [ I HOPE ] a simple dependability test would be good I think. Start with the weapons clean and lubed and shoot them until they malfunction. Use the same ammunition in all guns. Make determination as to cause of malfunction. ie; mag, ammo, user error or weapon dirty. Let the chips fall where they may. |

That's going to be interesting. Just for 1911 types alone, you would need almost a dozen brand names, with several models of each brand to be realistic, and that only proves one gun from the lot may or may not be any good. Plus, comparing one thats worn to a new one would skew the results. Admirable goals, arguable results forthcoming. Maybe just "run whatcha brung" just for fun. All the favorite guns range ready, see which chokes first? Kinda like SGB says, to determine malfunction, breakage or whatever. Sounds like fun. |
