I to my 92FS to the range today with my roommate. I brought along just 1 empty mag besides my carry mag. Both were Mec Gar 15rounders.

After about 150 rounds through the range mag at 10round intervals it would occasionaly stop locking the slide back. And then when we moved to doing Mozambique drills with 6 rounds in the mags(2 mozambiques, 1 for each target) it stopped locking the slide back altogether.

The mag has a good deal metal of that rubbed off from the ammo on the follower. Just wondering if this is typical of Mec Gar 15s or if it is an ammo thing. Or a dirty gun thing. Ammo used was Federal 9mm 115gr FMJ RN. Round count on the pistol is just north of 1800.

I plan on cleaning both pistol and mag, next time I go to the range if the same mag acts up, it gets down graded to range only mag.

If the magazine spring is weakened, it may stop pushing the follower high enough to engage the slide stop.

If the pistol is feeding/functioning fine, but fails to lock open when firing,,,,,maybe your thumb is riding the slide stop- preventing it from being pushed up by the magazine follower and locking the slide back after the last shot.

With empty magazines, insert into pistol and rack slide. Should lock open, if not, weak springs.

Or maybe....

Always a posibility if you had the magazines apart for cleaning,,,,,maybe the spring is inserted backwards. The top loop of the magazine spring should point upwards, front part of magazine. Sometimes the spring gets put in wacky.....

MecGar generally has a good reputation from what I've read here and elsewhere.

But I had  the same problems you describe with two brand new MecGar mags for a BHP.

So I picked up two new Browning mags (very pricey) and threw the MecGars in the trash.

Just don't have time to f*ck with crummy magazines.

Try some MDS mags from a company like CDNN. MDS mags are the same exact mags as factory mags but not marked with PB for Beretta.

Go for PB, MDS, or USGI.

My three "factory" mags that came with the gun are actually MDS mags.

Give it a good cleaning, I have never experienced any problems with Federal 115gr
