[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Two G19's? (Page 1 of 2)

What are some reasons you guys have multiples of the same Glock?

I've posted before about how I was thinking of getting rid of my G23 for a G26.  For mag/ammo commonality with my G19 and 9mm AR's.  Well, I've run across an ad on another forum where a guy's looking to trade his G19 for a G23 (in the same condition as mine; only about 200 rounds through it).  I'm considering it........although I'll admit, I'm not 100% sure why.

I know when it comes to a platform like AR's, multiples are a lot easier to make sense of.  Because there's a plethora of configurations you can take them.  But with a Glock (aside from setting one up for competition or something), I don't see a whole lot of configurations one can make.

Some people are dropping the "2 is 1, and 1 is none" theory into my head.  I'm also thinking it would be nice to have one to leave at home with my girl.

Just looking for some insight from those who own multiples of the same Glock, and their reasoning for it.

Redundancy. Even though its a Glock and the likelihood is slim, it may break and you need to replace it. More likely than that, if God forbid you have to use it to defend yourself and it ends up in the property room, you keep on plugging with the same carry piece.

So that my wife and I are using the same weapon system, mags, ammo, etc.

Plus what the dude above me said.

Two is one, one is none. I own 3 G19s, they are the only Glock that is worth a damn in MY opinion. Decent capacity, reasonable size, caliber that the gun was designed for, plenty of spare parts, reasonably priced ammo. I'm sure others have their favorite model also.

Dude, with Glocks, 1 is 2.  They're invincible.

I have (3) G-17's in the safe right now.  One is mine and the other 2 will be given to my sons when they turn 21.

Common spare parts (all of them)

One gets lost, stolen, broken, whatever, you just grab the other one and never miss a beat.

Holsters all work, everything is the same.

I'm actually not a Glock guy, but I am a guy with 2 model 638 J frames and 2 BHP's for the reasons listed above.

I have two nephews that will be inheriting my firearms as a consequence of that I feel the need to have matching sets of every firearm I own.

Illogical I know but what the hell I like the idea.

When someone at work says "I'll sell you this gen1 G21 for $250 because it dosn't have a rail". I gave it to my son, only because I have 2 already.........

One for each hand of course

One has a RMR on it. That sets it apart somewhat in usage from my primary G19.

I'd actually like to have a 3rd 19. But I have a 17 and a 26 too.

G19 gen 3
G19 gen 3 RTF(2)
G19 gen 3 OD Green
G19 gen 4
.....

You really need 4 G19's..

One can be for intensive training, one can be for carry...........

A duplicate is good............if you shoot somebody with it, they WILL take it for evidence........go home, and put the duplicate on.

I have all different 9mm Glocks.  All one caliber, holsters are generally the same, the mags are essentially interchangeable (34->17->19->26) and they all take the 33-rounders, and  I can shoot IDPA or ankle carry, depending on my mood.

I'm mostly a 1911 guy, but there is just something about the G19 that can't be explained. Especially in Gen 3. I loved it so much I bought two in consecutive serials.

Currently, I have 2 G19s, and I plan to get 2 more.
1 for everyone in the family –– eveyone can share mags.
I also have a G29sf, but no redundancy on that one.

I just haul out the big boy revolvers and shame that itty bitty 10mm.

Honestly, I can't afford to get into another caliber.

All the reasons given plus - depending on your local, if you ever have to use your pistol for SD, the local LEO's may confiscate it until the investigation is over. It would be nice to be able to say "sure here you go" then walk over to your safe and pull out you back up and slip it into your holster

I've got a pair of G19's as well.  One is set up for my can, the other is my carry piece.  The suppressor host is a RTF2 as well.  The mags and parts are interchangeable, and the whole two is one thing.

Alright, that settles it.  I'm gonna PM that guy and see if he wants to do the trade.

Thanks for the insight, fellas.

Nicely said MKD. I tend to buy or build defensive weapons in pairs, with my most recent purchase being a pair of Gen4 G17s.

Anything can break-no matter what name is on it.

Well damn.  The guy had already went out and bought a G23, but never updated his ad.

<––––is now thinking about putting up a WTT ad; G23 for a G26.

So if i get a divorce I still have a Glock 19......

Glocks are a dime-a-dozen. Cheap and easily replaced... quickly replaced.

I'd get a Glock 17 (home/range) and a Glock 26 (CCW). Both are better in their role than two Glock 19s. With the Glock 17 getting most of the range time, and since the system is the same, the Glock 26 wear will be minimal and it can fill the Glock 17 role if the Glock 17 goes down.

I have a Gen 2 19, then had Gen 3 envy so bought a generation 3 19

I have 8 9mm Glocks.

1 Gen 2 17
1 Gen 3 17
1 Gen 3 RTF 17
1 Gen 3 26
3 Gen 3 19
1 Gen 3 19c

I like the parts and mag interchangeability.  At home I'm not more than a few steps from one.  I can keep a spare in the truck in case I forget one, etc.  Bottom line I like them and they don't go bad.

i have a g19 and recently got a g17...was wondering what i could do with the 17 that i cant with the 19...after holding it for a while i think i cn find something lol although i really wanted a 21 or 20

I have an older version Gen 3 Glock 19 with the non shiny finish that has seen a lot of use and a newer shiny finish Gen 3 Glock 17.  Next on my list is a Glock 34 (maybe a RTF if they ever make them).  Then I want to gen either a original Gen 1 17 or 19.  I have no real use for duplicate models and have limited funds to buy new guns so I have to make it count.  But I can justify a Gen 1 17 or 19 just for the sake of owning a Gen 1.

This.  I've had G19 #1 go tits up not too long ago (snapped the slide lock retaining spring).  Put G19 #2 into the holster until the replacement part showed up.

G19 #2 also goes with me to USPSA competitions as a backup.

If I ever end up in that situation, I will go buy another gun that day.

Honestly, I don't see the need to have duplicates.  I do understand that after shooting someone is about the worst time to be unarmed, but I'll be quite happy to go drop the cash right then and there to rearm myself.  No waiting period in Oklahoma.  $500 is a small price to pay in that situation.  Though in my home, I've always got my trusty Bushmaster to fall back on.  Overkill...

Although... I carry a G23.  And in spite of my attitude toward duplicates, if I found a really badass deal on another 23, I'd probably get one.  Or a 22.  Like someone else said, they don't go bad.

Next Glock will more than likely be a Gen 3 19 or a Gen 3 17.

You could do that, but then are you going to go to the range right after that to put a couple hundred rounds of range ammo (and SD ammo) through the gun to make sure it functions properly as you should with any carry gun?

I've got multiple of the same model Glock. One for carry, one for the upstairs nighstand safe and one for the downstairs office handgun safe.

I have 2 19's and a 26, and a gen 4 19 on the way. Mainly for for redundancy. It's the platform I train on, might as well have a few...wife shoots 19's, and I have a ton of mags, holsters, mag carriers, parts etc.

I know a dude who has 30 g19's. You read that right, 30 [thirty] g19's.
